Since I have all three I thought I’d post my thoughts for anyone on the fence on what to do. Maybe this will pick up some discussion. Hope you all can chime in as well.

My truck. 4x4 OR, steal bumper, skids, 33’s.

    OVTune $769
    Shift sense pro v2 $185
    4.88 Nitros $1100
    Gear install $900
Gear 500 mile fluid change $50

    Gear review

So I started out with gears. Everything you see on here is that 33’s = new gears. So down the rabbit hole I went. Would I do it again? I dont know but 33’s look sweat on the truck and Dirty 5’s look sicker. For the gears the only difference I noticed is that I have more power off line from 0mph at stop lights ect. I am glad I got them because I dont feel ‘im under geared. 0-5 stars I say 4.

    SSPv2-

Don’t waiste your money. Yes it works and its a good product. Yes it smoothes shifting somewhat. But save the $185 and apply it to OVTune. 3 stars.

    OVTune

Hands down best mod yet! If I could do it over Id start with this right from factory. If youre on fence do it. No mods needed on truck. I am running 87 octane with 1.04 tune. Took me 40 minutes to do initial download then if I future flash it will take 5 min. I immidiately noticed “buttery smoothe” shifting. I wish I did this day #1 off lot. 1-5 stars I give it 5.

    My recommendations:

    Tune day 1.
    Skip SSP
Regear did show improvements so yes but Id tune first.

Is OV tune undoable if you have to take the truck into service?

You don't have to worry about this. They can't track it. I have already been to service with the tune installed

Good to know, I've been curious about this because I know the tunes on other cars can be tracked and that has stopped me from doing while under warranty.

Forgive me for not digging through the other threads on OVTune, but does it adversely effect gas mileage at all? If it's true that Toyota has taken even a small interest in it, then it would be nice if they'd swallow their pride and make available something similar for everyone.

Well if it really bothers you, once you have a tune installed, flashing back to the stock files (which comes with the purchase) takes about 8-10 mins. However, these tunes take about 300 miles to really reach their full potential so consider that. If you re-flash, you start over

Same here - I'd love to have that conversation w/ a tech. I mean the ECU readings look pretty normal, no crazy Lamda and trans/engine oil temps are normal.

I can't help but think at some point a tech has gotten in mine and thought "well, this feel so smooth... that's odd."

From what ive read, 2-3mpg increase. With gears i lost anout that. I am currently at 14mpg will report back after a tank on the tune. As far as Toyota I dont think so but dealerships have. I dont want to soeak for him or his company

    Well,

I am lifted with 265/75 r16's, 100lbs sliders, 160llbs winch and bumper and another 60lbs of gear and before the tune i was getting about 16-17 to a tank. Now I average 18-22 depending on city vs highway. But my truck has power now, lots of power

I get slightly better MPGs but definitely no negative hit. Many have reported MUCH better MPGs

Ya I'm no stranger to reflashing tunes it's just something I'd rather not do for the reason you stated. It really shouldn't void warranty work that is not engine related anyways but I've seen that can really depends on the dealership.

Yah for them to go out of there way to look for it would require time and effort. They may be more suspicious from how awesome it drives lol

Having the tune first might change your mind and save you a little $$$. Keep in mind that 33" tires seems to be the magic size threshold to when these trucks struggle a bit and re-gearing should be considered.

If the tune was wrecking peoples engines and blowing gaskets and shit there'd be reason for Toyota to take note and get to the bottom of it. Mat (OVtune) has taken care to bring the engine/transmission to life without breaking stuff.

At this point there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 trucks tuned and I've yet to hear a single tune-related failure or problem.
