Being the anal person i am and taking time to not to break anything, about 3 hours. Of course i had put sound deadening material all over the passenger door so i had to slowly remove some of it and work around what was left. If it wasnt for that, probably would have been a little quicker. Probably what took the most time was fishing the wire in the existing rubber boot between the door and body of truck. Otherwise it looks like it came from the factory that way and works like a charm. Like Victory said, the key can be on the driver side, and you can open the door on the pass side and vice, versa. It like the antenna was just extended to the other door. It doesnt work like a toyota with a factory pass handle, but better then before. Now i dont have to take my fob out of my backpack when i open the pass door. I am TOTALLY HAPPY with how it came out. I was the second to do it so now all the watchers can feel confident that it will work for their trucks also! I wanted to wait and see also, but i have been waiting so long for a solution, i just said screw it and ordered everyting to do it. Followed @Victory instructions and it worked on the first try. I did use posi-taps instead of the other taps just because i wanted to be able to take it off without being able to tell it was ever connected.

Glad it worked out for you, I agree getting it through that rubber door boot is the toughest step.
Looking forward to hearing of some more successful installs!

Thanks for the info. I agree, the boot is a pain in the arse.

    Awesome write up @Victory !!!!!

Sucks Toyota couldn’t even have had this as an option on the Tacoma :annoyed:

My 2012 Camry SE V6 has keyless entry on both driver and passenger side and the trunk !!

Definitely sticky material imo OP !!

As far as fishing the wire through the boot I would use a long zip tie .
Unclip both ends of the boot as the OP stated and put a lil lube on the zip tie.

We’re still talking about the trucks hole right? My wife might think I’m taking my truck love thing to a whole new level if I bust out the KY while bent over “working”.

Wife: honey what are you doing with the lube?
Me: nothing babe, the hole is too small and it’s too tight to fit it in. I can’t get it in the hole without lube.

She already thinks I show the truck more love than her. I think I’m goin in dry on this one...

    Nonetheless, great suggestion!

I used a piece of copper wire, i took the black wire out of a romex and slowly fished it through from the inside of the truck into the door. Then i soldered the two leads of the door handle wire to the copper wire, heat shrank the solder point then pulled it through. After it got through, i cut it off. I know a little bit much, but it was such a challange to get the copper wire through, i didnt want it to come off just by taping it with electrical tape. Hence why it took me so darn long. Lol

I used wire from a coat hanger folded in half, went from the footwell to the door, I pulled the rubber out on each side to try to straighten it as much as possible, once I was though I just put the wire through the folded hanger with at least a foot of tail and pulled it back through, then put the rubber back into place.

Good idea with the lube that may help, but the issue isn’t really pulling the wire back, but getting your fish wire through the first time because the boot isn’t straight and is fairly full of wire. I don’t think a zip tie will work, you need something stiffer and thinner. I had an actual fish tape that wouldn’t work for me, it wasn’t stiff enough or thin enough, I’d think a zip tie would have the same problem.

I hope this isn’t scaring anyone though. The mention that this is the hardest part is mostly meant to show that this is a pretty easy mod.

Just to reiterate when i say challange, it took like 10-15 min, so its not that difficult, just need some patience. If i had removed the boot on both sides like Victory mentioned, I probably could have done it quicker. And this is one of the easier mods i have done to my truck.

I haven't done it yet, I just know from speaker wire in other cars that running wires through the boot is a pain. The other guys have real good suggestions
