But if the dirt coming thru your intake has made it to the oil reservoir then it has already passed the rings and done it’s damage. It’s to late. A dusted engine shows wear in the upper cylinder and generally shows up as loss of compression and blow by. Not failed main bearings which would result in dirty oil.

Quit fucking around and add nitrous, meat. All this blah, blah, blah for 10 hp is for the birds. Oh, its so throaty too! Gimme a break. Why not run a brown gas bleed while youre at it. Actually, that would make sense if it were generated from a solar panel instead of off the alternator.

This troll post reflects only a small part of my drunk ass opinion since my drunk ass only has a small opinion. No hampsters were mistreated to form said opinion.

Your 77 Celica, correct me if I am wrong, has a carburetor. The stock air filter would be getting air from the top of a hot motor. So, yes, a cold air intake would be part of a modification to add some power. I always liked those little cars anyhow.

I wrote this in December of 2004, it is focused on their silly snake-oil filters--was true then and is still true. Their intake kits are better than some, worse than others, but still cannot deliver the HP they claim. Want to convince me; buy one, then head to your friendly neighborhood dyno shop and run back-to-back tests (shouldn't cost more than $400), then post the charts...

Also, why does engine only capable of inhaling 425 cfm (4.0 L @ 6000 rpm @ 100 % V.E.) need an intake capable of passing more than 852?

I remember 1983, SuperShops, I got me some Black Jack headers, a Holley 650cfm double pumper, Edelbrock high rise manifold, chrome valve covers!, did you read that? Chrome brother! I attached them all to a bone stock Ford 302 and it sputtered and shot gas out of the exhaust until I joined the Navy and sold the Mustang to my brother in law. LOL, it sure keep me out of "real" trouble.

Maybe ran like crap because you didn't change the pump squirters , pump cams and jetting to work for your set up

I think the valves needed some upgrading and the cam and then that leads to some more things...

its all a hype to get foolish people to buy their products, and make them think that they are improving their trucks performance, a fool and their money soon go separate ways as the saying goes.

It's pretty simple. Any CAI that is not boxed only draws warm air from the engine compartment along with much more dust and debris comprising air flow. Simply worse than stock. With that said, yes I have installed a TRD Preformance Intake (that is what Toyota refers to it as). It is a boxed filter intake that is ported out the front fender so as to draw external air. I don't know how much, if any HP is adds but it sure looks sweet. If you are in the market for a CAI just consider boxed over exposed.

Its pretty easy to seal off the CAI to only get outside cooler ambient air temp . use some 3/4 water pipe foam insulation and attach it to the metal air pan . this will allow no hot engine air to enter the filter

Another trick is using 4" dia aluminized heat sleeving and slide this over the entire length of the CAI tube . Doing this will lower the air temp inside allowing cooler denser air into the motor

Lot easier to purchase box cai than pay all that $ plus more just to box an open air style. But what ever floats your boat.

    All the things!
I installed my TRD Pro intake and filter today. My truck has no other performance mods (except etc always on mod).

Official butt dyno results... No change. The truck feels exactly as it did before. I can't even tell a noise difference.

Overall, I'm still happy with my under hood bling and I enjoyed the one on one time with my truck during the install. I've definitely wasted more money on much less fulfilling activities.

    Edit: proof

Any CAI that isnot "boxed" (as I understand your meaning) is not CAI..

I’ve had one on my 4.0L Tacoma and 5.7L Tundra. Both made a low end “wot” sound when stepping on it, sounds like the 3.6L TRD intake sound wise is the same? As any one else has said probably no power, usually adds some sound if that’s what your after, bling and a filter that can be cleaned.

Old pic of my K&N FIPK CAI , you can see the metal plate that keeps warm engine air from getting to the filter . You can see the OEM rubber gasket that K&N uses to seal the box to the hood and core support /fender area

I now use a 2' section of 3/4" dia water pipe insulation tubing over that rubber gasket

This pipe insulation completely seals up this box and only allows cold ambient air into the filter
