    Friday, July 27th - Sunday, July 29th
A big group of us TW members have decided to head out to Mammoth lakes for an action packed weekend of overland style camping, off-road group trail runs, hot springs, fishing, breweries , hiking, shooting and all kinds of other shenanigans like usual. Open invite for all Taco owners and anyone who has an off road rig!

The ranger station said we can camp for free anywhere 2 miles outside of town.

Campsite: Off Grid Location a few miles outside of town 37.711871,-118.965107
Directions below, PM me for questions or more details.

Trails: open to suggestions. Nothing crazy hard or technical, most of us don't have sliders or skids.
    • Inyo Craters
    • Little Antelope Valley
    • Lookout Mountain Loop.
    • Laurel Lakes
    • Mammoth Knolls OHV Trail.
    • Owens River-Hot Creek Road.
So far 22 trucks + (A subi and a Jeep) and counting! Spread the word.

    DIRECTIONS TO OFF GRID SITE

Cell service is very spotty so I provided distance measurements below with pictures to help make sure you make the correct turns.

Heading North on the 395 you will turn left at Mammoth Scenic Loop and drive for just under 1 mile then Turn right ( 4th right turn) This is Dry Creek Cutoff Road

You will drive for 0.4 miles then turn right ( picture for reference )

Then you will drive for roughly 0.6 miles and the campsite is on the right hand side. There are actually 2 spots, one is closer and the other one is 0.6 miles in.

Off grid spot #1. This is the first one you will pass on your right. ( I was driving back out so its on my left in this photo) That guy in the motorhome was there both weekends in a row I went so if its open lets snag it!

Off grid spot #2. This one if 0.6 miles in on your right hand side.

Most of the back roads look like this, with some super soft sand sections mixed in so anyone with 2wd and good tires should be fine getting around. Its super fun just cruising through the back roads.

How many days and fees for camping, etc.... or just an adventure pass and a fishing license?

I only know of some near idlewild and big bear. There is a ton of BLM land surround mammoth though.

July 14,15th looks like the next weekend that still has open slots. I may call in sick so I can stay until Monday.

I believe it is 2wd friendly, On laurel lake trail there is a hair pin most of us will have to pull a 3 pointer on but besides that its a loose rocky/dirt road with beautiful scenery and a sweet lake to hang out at for the day. Im trying to find out if we can camp overnight at the lake.

Here are some pics from Laurel lake trail. Looks do able in 2wd. The DCLB's like me might have a hard time on some of the hair pin turns tho lol

Ranger says we are allowed to camp anywhere 2 miles outside of town. We can also camp at Laurel Lake overnight for free. Off the grid/overland camping sounds pretty fun, screw the campsites lol
