Hello all Im new to the site but have owned two tacomas a 97 basic 2wd and currently own a 2011sr5 2wd access cab. Both awesome low maintenance reliable work horses. Im looking to get a 2018 4wd double cab long bed. I’ve heard mixed reviews on them some good some awful and some people are telling to try a ford truck. I loved my past trucks and would appreciate some good advice onthe 2018s. Thanks

Many members have a similar situation to what you are in.

Test drive the Tacoma at different dealers if possible. Request extended/ overnight test drives.

Also test drive the GM twins, Frontier and some full size trucks so you have something to compare the Taco to.

Don't put too much stock in what you read here, since nobody else is paying for your truck.

Good luck and welcome to TW.

I have bought 2 new 18 Dclb and a dcsb both sports 4 wheel drive in the last 60 days. My son has the short bed and I think my lb is about 2 feet longer. Ride quality is definitely better than the short bed hands down but not by much. I think it's all looks for me. The short bed looks different, to my eyes. The long bed looks more proportional, imo. I think it's up too you and how you see it and do you want better ride and approach angles. I don't think it's that much of a difference. I only use mine for weekends, don't haul anything, maybe on occasion and might go on the beach or some snow. Maybe a dirt road, mostly stays in the garage.

Ford has the new diesel f150 out as well. It's got good reviews.
I like my 17 Tacoma DCSB, but there's a lot of mods I would have to do to gearing if I was a highway driver. Personal opinion: it's geared to high. Should be 4:30. And if did it again I would get a manual because of the hills on my commute.(which is geared 4:30 from stock)

Just as an aside, my dad has owned both f150's with the EcoBoost engines(2.7 and 3.5) and they're both great, but if he was to renew another lease he'd go back to the 3.5 or try the diesel. And they're very smooth trucks, smoother than my Taco, except I can toast him off road.

DCLB is almost exactly 1 foot longer than DCSB. All Toyota did was stick an AC bed on a DCSB body.

I have owned both and like the DCLB more.

A DCSB has a wheel base of 127.4 vs the DCLB at 140.6 so I don't see how a AC bed will work being to close to the wheels on a SB. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see how.

    Yeah
Your 100% right you can see in the photo that the rear tire is about twelve inches further towards the rear directly behind the cab of the long box than it is on the short box.

I just figured he was exaggerating for effect?o_O

Anyone considering a Tacoma now for next 6 months should wait to see the Rapter Ranger. That thing looks badass
