Have any of you had your frames Line-Xed? I talked to a guy where they spray Line-x and he said they will not spray it on the frame, with the cab still on, as if it gets on your brake lines/ wiring when they are spraying it, it hardens, that would not be good. I guess it is pretty hard stuff, and dries very very fast. Would love my frame to be sprayed with Line-x though. So have any of you guys had yours sprayed? And if you had them spray your frame, did you have the whole thing stripped down to the frame, or did you have them spray your frame with the cab still on? Thanks

Why would you want to do that?
if it is to protect from rust, you are much better greasing/rustproofing the frame than put this stuff on it.
It would be a very bad idea to put line-X on the frame with this purpose in mind

It was just a thought. I know the frames rust from the inside out. I was just thinking about painting the out side of the frame, and putting the oil to the inside of the frame. I am going to keep it oiled/ greased anyways. I am bringing my truck into Toyota for one last frame inspection, would like it to fail, for a new one. If it passes, I will just grease/ oil it, like you guys said. Thanks for your input.

Your best bet is POR-15. It’s kind of expensive but it’s the best option for rust proofing. I just POR-15’nd my rock sliders and plan on doing my entire frame when I can.

We Por-15 my Brothers 2002 Toyota tundra frame. Still not sure if I like Por-15. I think if my original frame rusts out, I will just buy a replacement frame and pay some one 1-2,000 to do the frame swap for me. My truck only has 90,800 miles on it right now. And for the most part the frame is not all rusted. From the back of the cab back, it could use grease/ oil. Going to keep pumping the inside of the frame with oil also. Keep it coated.

Yeah, I only have surface rust as of right now. I bought it a few years back and it looked like a brand new frame. It was rather garaged or replaced. I looked into brand new and they were like $3k.

And i think por15 can stand the heat from power coating, think its rated for 400 degrees, not sure how hot powder coating gets

Just oil your frame every winter - it's a tested solution - fluid film and a few other types of oil work.

I'm sold on fluid film. It was designed with Heavy Marine Industry in mind meaning protecting steel from salty water. I used it the second time on my both trucks and the coating is the best from anything I've seen.

How much would that cost? And could they powder coat your frame with the cab still on, or does it have to be fully disassembled?

What type of oil do you use? And this is what I plan on doing anyways, buy a sprayer for the air compressor, that way I can put what ever type of oil I want in the sprayer, and just spray the frame, inside and out.

I have used fluid film on the snowblower to keep the snow from building up. Do you buy it in the gallons, and just spray it on your self?

Yup, when my frame needs replacing I would like to have the swap done to it, if the rest of the truck is still good. The frames are about $3,800. Pay a guy 1-2,000 to do the swap, and you are all set. That is way down the road though.

I live in socal so there's not a hint of rust on either of my trucks - most guys in the salt belt that truly care about rust prevention will use fluid film or Krown or some home-made concoction like some old diesel fuel mixture etc. Eric O. who does South Main Auto on YouTube used Krown with good results. Fluid film is probably a little cheaper.

My truck has only seen one real winter, but I made sure to fluid film it meticulously inside and out this last fall. When I power washed the undercarriage before re-applying this spring, everything looked brand new under the coating of gunk. That stuff works and I will swear by it from now on. I only regret not discovering it earlier.

Powder coating requires taking the frame to just a bare frame, no rubber at all
