Does anyone else experience this? I mostly get it around 25-35 MPH usually as the truck downshifts to pick up speed. Mostly when i’m light on the throttle. I know the owners manual says light knock is normal but still wondering what it can be. I use 87 Chevron always. Its a little concerning being as I would like to own the truck for at least 8-10 years

Just this tank of fuel or an ongoing thing? If it's just this last fill up then it's a bad tank of gas. If it's an o going thing I'd fill up w mid grade and see if it goes away. At least you'll see if it's a fuel related issue. ...I dont see how it could be much else.

I wouldnt worry about it, probably just the frame twisting from all that torque.

Always use chevron? try a different gas station maybe higher octane for a tank or two and don’t be afraid to get in the throttle little bit more...

I’m going to try a different octane and also a different gas station next fill up. It has been an ongoing thing since i’ve owned the truck. I’m at about 13k miles now. What i find weird is i’ve looked up similar threads ok this forum and still no one truly has an answe for this besides bad gas, it sucks to know that we may not know until later on in our truck cycles if the knock could play a part in something more

I hear a very slight knock on light acceleration as well. Been there since new. Probably from the leaned-out ECU map.

I use 87 "whatever". Never had any knocks. 41K on it now.

Have you tried ECT mode? What you describe seems like the engine is struggling in too high of a gear for the speed.

Yes. Before I sold mine it would knock in that same speed range, though usually when on a gradual incline.

I get it under light acceleration, going up hills or under acceleration coming out of corners. Always when RPM’s are under 2k.
Always fill up at Costco w/ 87 octane. The truck hasn’t had anything else in it.

I guess it’s a normal condition of the Atkinson’s, exacerbated by my grandma style driving, but it’s annoying AF, and I can’t believe they make a vehicle that is supposed to do that. :notsure:

If the engine were knocking, pinging or lean it would throw a CEL...being throttle by wire just put your foot into it! It’s easy to blame the equipment...very low rpm and heavy load of course it’s gonna rattle

Mines does the exact same thing under light acceleration and i think it’s normals but it’s kinda of a scary sound it sounds like the engine knocking from lack of oil

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
Back in the olden days we would time the ignition advance to just knock under load with light throttle, that was the sweet spot. Just the engine lugging, use a little more foot.

Mine does the same thing right as it downshifts at half throttle. It’s actually pinging for a second or two. If I fill up with 91 or better octane it does not do this. The knock sensor is hearing the knock and backing the timing off within those seconds to stop it. It’s part of having such high compression ratio running on 87 octane...
