Hello all! I just got a 2018 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 double cab manual tranny. I have had it about 4 weeks now, just hit 1000 miles. There is this higher pitched sound that the truck makes when it is cruising at speed. It will make the sound at 50, 55, and 70 and is easily repeatable. It is most noticeable when I have the cruise control set because it keeps it right at the speed without changing. It is not a super loud sound but I can hear it, I had a 1994 jeep wrangler before this so I am used to listening for new noises haha. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this before I go back up to the dealer with it? I can not seem to pin point exactly where it is coming from but seems to be more towards the front.

I would keep driving it and see if it's still doing it at the first service. Some people on here jump the gun and expect the worst. There's some quirks with these trucks but I enjoy mine even with some of the odd noises and nuances I have a 17 Or.

    Fresh gas.
Can you re-create it by feathering the throttle?
Rear diff is known to whistle or whine when doing this.

I consider it my "low fuel useage" sound, I don't mind it after 8000miles. Yet.

Just your drivetrain making noise. I told my dealer about it. They agreed I have a noise but Toyota doesn’t have a fix for it, so they won’t do anything. But I guess I’m on a “list” so when they do have a fix I will get it.

Yup, I can pretty much turn it off and back on at will just by moving the throttle a bit or letting off it. usually stops with an accel or deccel and starts back again once "cruising." Seems most noticeable when going down an incline with cruise control on.

Thanks for that! It may not be exactly what my issue is because mine gets louder as the speed gets higher and that mentions 50 mph specifically but it may be close and or related. i'll ask the dealer about it if I take it up there.

No problem, my truck is loudest at about 54, but the sound is mostly in the 50 to 60 range.

Mine is loudest/ most noticeable at 68- 70 and that is where I really noticed it. which made me start listening more, 55 does it but no where near as bad as at 70.
