Few cents from me. Almost finished core part. Al pipes 1-1/2''(0.125) mounted by rivets and bolts. No workshop, no welding :( just two cordless drills and hacksaw on my patio. Tracks has been found on junk yard, it's from Ford Escape. Nuts for rails is from superstrut collection(grinded a little bit). Next is to cover sides of roof rack by sheet al plates(painted) and start to work on cabin roof rack.

Can confirm. You get the basic idea in this pic. Conversely I actually like the overhang because it gives some more security and rain cover for the bed

Bought my CVT last year with thoughts of wheeling and camping in my head. Then I started skydiving.... and never took the Taco out anywhere off road. My CVT sat propped up against the garage wall alone and neglected. Yesterday I finally pulled it out, put it together and mounted it on the truck.

Instructions were adequate for putting most of it together, but I have quite a few pieces left over. So tonight I am Googling and Youtubing to find what the other stuff is for. I left the tent up over night as we were going out for dinner and I had to get cleaned up. Came out today to find about 30 gallons of water in the overhang part. Start searching stuff tonight and find what the spreader bar is for. That would have been good to know yesterday. LOL. Luckily nothing bent or broke, that I saw anyway. Thanks to another Youtube video, I saw the extra brackets on the ladder that I had not seen in other video/pics. So now I know what to do with those.

Eventually I will get it all figured out. 30 years ago, I was sleeping in the mud just wrapped in my woobie. 10-15 years ago I was going out in a 35' Class A Winnebago. Now I am in this. It is like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Too little, too much, just right.

For those who have a RTT mounted in the bed, What are you using to keep your stuff in the bed dry and clean (since you can't really have a bed cover)? I'm moving cross country soon and will have some of my stuff in the bed that won't fit in the back cab. I am considering buying bed bars & RTT to sleep in along the journey. I currently have a softopper, and although it will be less ideal, maybe it makes sense not to buy the RTT now, and sleep under the softopper until I reach my destination. Any thoughts on this?

I thought of this idea, but I really prefer the look / function of the RTT sitting lower as you have in your signature. Having the RTT sit under the topper would be great.

Gotcha, that's why I built 2 different racks. Depending on how long I'll be gone and how much crap I need dictates which rack I'm using. I've seen it done before. @erok81 has mounted his rtt under his softopper but I don't know how he did it. I'm sure he can help you out some.

I bought the four pack of these. Have not used them yet so cannot testify to the weatherproofedness of them, but they look very promising. Six will fill a longbed just right so nothing slides around so I am buying four more and giving my son two to use in his jeep.

I have mid-height bars for my RTT. I also have two of these Dewalt boxes from Home Depot. I drove for 2 days in the pouring rain with these in the back, under the rack, and everything inside both boxes was bone dry.

Try the yard sale if you don’t have luck with discount. I got a Tepui Kukenam 3 Ruggedized for $900. Only issue was a dent that I fixed in 5 minutes. Original price was $2,100.
