That reflective aluminized tubing and wraps work very well !!

I use that on my Fuel lines , electrical on my Drag Race car !!

Man What are you talking about? Dirt goes through the intake, past the intake valve and into the cylinder LONG before it gets into the oil. What difference do oil change intervals make if you're running aerated sandpaper up and down the cylinder walls? I've seen this said before so maybe I'm missing something about where the air goes after it passes through the filter?

There are open (or exposed) air filter cai and there are air box cai which are duct usually through the fender so they actually draw cooler air as opposed to hot engine air as in the case of the open or exposed style cai

A lot of people run aftermarket filters. It's kind of hard to get sand past a good aftermarket filter but the smaller particulates can. They are not quite as bad as "sandpaper". Once it hits the piston it transfers to the oil so regular oil changes always help.

I've been running intakes on multiple cars for 100 of thousands of miles for the last 20 years and yet to destroy a motor.

I have the same one, never noticed any power difference, but I DID notice a big sound difference.

I was using hyperbole to make a point, of course it's hard to get actual literal sand in the intake. The particulate that I have seen blow through a brand new K&N filter is more than enough to ruin a top end. When you have a cylinder to wall clearance of .0030 it doesn't take much to sand the walls down, and no amount of changing oil is going to prevent that if you're sucking in dirt. But hey, the 2hp gain might just be worth it.

So how has my motor lasted over 100k miles on a cheap filter making 400+whp? It's currently at 330k miles at 30psi of boost.

The intake, exhaust, turbo, ported manifolds all work together. On my car that intake adds a lot more than 2hp.

Good for you. My point is that changing oil doesn't negate aspirated dirt. We're talking about putting an intake on a stock vehicle, not a built engine. You're going to make power regardless of whether there's a $100 pod filter or a dirty sock on the end of it.

Okay your right. I'm sorry. Changing oil does nothing to help with removing particulates added by aftermarket filters because the damage is already done.

After reading some of yalls comments on media making it past the filter and getting into the combustion chamber I wanted to do some quick research over air filter efficiency. I took a better look at the testing results preformed by S&B intakes located here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2evqL8Y1pdHSWh4OUs0Q1pQMW8/view). They showed the the stock box and filter had an efficiency of 99.93% which is pretty damn good. Their test results also showed that their intake with the dry filter had an efficiency of 99.65% which is still good but it doesn't stop everything. I then tried to find some research on stock replacement filter such as wix and found that wix used the same test (ISO 5011) on filter 42389 and it had efficiency of at least 99.5.

I myself am running the S&B CAI with the dry filter and I am not worried about particles getting past the intake and hurting the engine. I dont take my truck off-road what so ever it my daily driver near a city. I think if I did it would concern me a little more. I am still impressed with the S&B intake especially after reading the testing even deeper.

    Great post.

Hope that 0.43% extra particulates don't blow your motor. Haha. Mine have been fine.

I don't mind a little extra particulate getting through either. Keeps my shop busy when I've got to rebuild the engine. Key difference is off-road vs on.
