TSB 0273-17 Leaf Spring silencer noise

None of my old Chevy’s squeaked, and I’ve had them continuously since 77. Toyota should be ashamed if they are still putting the same squeaking shit out. If you never leave the pavement squeaks are far less likely. Any off road, and mine squeaks.

 

Finally took the truck in. Surprise surprise they’re blaming my springs instead of fixing their shitty pads.. hopefully I can fix in my own.

Headstrong add a leaf pack

 

That add a leaf goes right into the pack itself, so technically it’s still there. Since you are lifted, you might be able to take the add a leaf out, put a cheap block underneath your oems, and then get the tsb. I’d tell the Mgr they’re just rubber pads and there is a documented problem with squeaking, before adding the aal. You might also see about them just giving you the silencers for free, and putting them in yourself.

 

We’ll see... might try a more competent dealership further away.

No but wasn’t immediately after the install either though. Asked for the new parts to do myself and he said the tsb doesn’t replace anything. Obviously he didn’t even look at it... should have trusted my gut that it would be a waste of time going there they did a horrible job updating me when my rear differential was leaking.

 

So tried and was rejected. The cleaned them and greased them because that's what corporate told them to do. The guy said to complain every single time I go there, and even call and complain sometimes and it will hopefully change. He said this is the process they had to use for the 16-17's and I'm not the first to come in with an 18 squeaking. Pretty much bullshit, and Toyota is not impressing me or anyone on this thread with they way they are unable to make leaf springs that don't suck after 60 years.

 

Ya when I go back in for my nex oil change I’ll be having them silence them. Had them put the noise problem in the system during the first oil change but was short on time that day and don’t live close enough to leave the truck. Will update after the next time around when I plan on leaving it there long enough for them to do something. I’m also going to make sure I go drive on some bumpy as shit roads right before I go in so they are extra loud. Will be taking to Toyota of Seattle,so far my experience with them has been positive. Last oil change they let me come in an hour early of scheduled time so I could get out to make it to another appointment that came up same day.

 

Yeah corporate shut me down, the local dealer isn't the problem. They are already squeaking again...oh well.

 

How many of those round plastics did they install between leafs?
Whats the part #, maybe i should just buy and install if dealership refuses.

 

I complained to the dealer last year and they greased the springs. I went back just last week and showed them the TSB. They ordered the parts and are doing the install next week. Do I need an alignment after the round disks are installed?

I had to show the dealer the TSB printed out in my hand. They acted like they had never heard of it before.

 

I do not think you need an alignment after, it shouldn't affect that at all.

 

You can fix this yourself... I've been doing it for years on all sorts of trucks..


Chalk your front wheels... Jack up the rear of the truck off the rear hitch, just enough to sag the springs, not so that it is off the ground...

Take a putty knife and some "easy slide" made by "Kleen Flo" and apply it to all the spring pads,,, There is 4 I believe... Squeak will be gone..


It is imperative that you use "easy slide"... It is a specialty brake lube for servicing your sliders... It is very resilient.. Its a form of silicone, not petroleum based..

Normal grease doesn't hold up.. Nor does sprays..

Good luck... this takes less than 15 mins, and it will fix it for months..

 

might have to try this since Toyota won't own up to it yet on my model year.

 

Mine just started doing it at 4,000 miles. 2017 OR. It's a bit annoying. Will have to take it in and see what they say. For the Canadians that have done this, is there a separate TSB or do they just know about the issue?

 

Its so much easier to just do it yourself the way I explained above...

Your going to have to eventually anyways when your warranty is out... The new ones will squeak to!
