Have you replicated exactly what it's doing in flat pavement to what it's doing on dirt road, like exact conditions? I really want to try and figure this out.

 

I have really struggled to replicate it. Except just a few minutes ago when rolling up to a stop sign in neutral in hunt, there was a small bump in the road and i heard it once there. It seems like it only happens at very low speeds <10 mph

 

@Texoma i was able to replicate it at low speeds on pavement. Same click/clatter noise. Almost sounds like something is loose inside the diff

 

Can you put it on jack stands like we had it yesterday and put it in gear and get the wheels going then switch to neutral and take a listen as the drive train comes to a rolling stop.

 

Yessir, i will do this and keep you posted on what it does. Good news is, it sounds like its getting a little quieter. Im at about the 220 mile mark right now, so hopefully its just something to do with the break in process

 

I cleaned out the inside of the housing really well before we set the new diff in. Only other variable is if there was something that got hung up in the gears that was in the box, everything else seemed good. I rotated the new diff to make sure it was smooth, checked the back lash and it was good. When you drained n filled yesterday, was the magnet plug on the drain or on the fill?

 

@rjbiii you can see I cleaned the inside of the diff as it was almost black before. You can see where the air line to the locker is well out of the way of the gears. And I also torqued everything down to factory spec. Only other thing I can think of is maybe the rear brakes making a noise.

 

It was definitely on the drain in the right place. I definitely dont think it was anything that you did.

Yeah im not sure whats goig on, im hoping its just part of the gears breaking in. Im about to go for another drive right now. Ill let you know if it is starting to quiet down

 

Hate to say, but that's not normal break in noises. Something is up. I'm hoping something with brakes rather than gears. Did you try the jack stand drive?

Just did the jack stand drive. Everything sounded normal, no noises when coasting to a stop or when in gear

Also did this when locked and unlocked and still the same result, no noises out of the ordinary

 

@Texoma it also seems to be getting quieter as im putting more miles on it.. i have no idea whats going on

 

Sounds like something is wearing down. Check if anything may be contacting the driveshaft or any other moving parts.

@Texoma just went out and checked everything. There doesnt appear to be anything contacting the driveshaft, but while i was under there i noticed the ujoint closest to the carrier bearing has about an 1/8” of play. Any way this could be causing it?

 

Also, check the eBrake cable brackets are all the tightened down and anything that could be flapping around with airflow.
