Well I figured out the grounding issue after using a mulitmeter and putting one probe on the barrel of the coax that attaches to the radio and the other probe on a wire that I had attached to the negative side of the battery and fed into the cab. At first there is was no change in the circuit so there was no ground in the coax... so I rechecked the little grounding cable that I had made and redid it. Using the multimeter I checked it and made sure it was working like it should and it was... so re checked the coax again after wiggling the FireRing portion of the coax and this time... there was no resistance so the circuit was complete and I had a solid ground... went back and wiggled the Firering again and rechecked... was back to open.

So I know there is an issue with the portion of the Coax that attaches to the antenna and more than likely needs to be replaced, only way to replace it is to replace the entire cable, so I did some ziptieing and went to recheck SWR and still above 3s.

Decided to try something and put the adjustment screw all the way up and recheck it and now the SWR on channel one is at like a 1.3, but at channel 40 it is still above a 3, which means that the antenna is too long somehow... so I still have no idea. I have pretty much spent most of today and a majority of yesterday on this, so at the moment I am done with this project and more than likely not going to have CB for Jambo unless I go ahead and order another Coax and try and install it Tuesday night somehow.

I sold my 4ft antenna so I can't throw it on there to see if maybe the antenna as a whole is too short and that is causing the SWR issues. Regardless, I need a new coax cable as the one I have now has seen better days anyways.

I have a coax cable that I missed the return date on Amazon if your interested. Also I can talke my 4ft antenna off if you want to try that. I’ll bring my swr meter so we can rule out a bad meter. Let me know if you want anything else can help you diagnose.

Sure! I will take it or at least try it out.

It is a wire from FireStik, so not a bad gauge wire, just the part that connects to the antenna is messed up from when when I had it mounted at first and I didn't notice it rubbing against the bed of the truck and the way it was bent was not good on the mount.

I ordered another kit from Amazon earlier for $10 as I had some left over gift card, should be here on Tuesday so I will get it swapped out as it should not be too hard to rerun it as I already have everything done... will just have to refish it through the back wall and then redo the part that connects to the back of the radio.

Will do, it is @Naveronski's that I am using right now and it seems to be working correctly.

Yea, bring the SWR as we can try that, hoping the new cable will resolve all the issues, or hell, it may just be the antenna I have now is just too short to be honest.

    Word,

I bet we can get those taken care of after we set up camp on Thursday and after I run into town for the other beer since we may need to wait on @hoarder23 and @Naveronski to get done so we can do some prerunning of some trails... should not take long to check SWR on a couple radios honestly.

Also, don't coil your slack, just fold it back and forth. If you roll it, it creates an electromagnetic field in plasmoid ring shape so strong even the shielding can't protect it from interference.

And... since @ETXTacoma is an expert now, I should get mine checked as well. I've been lazy and it works "fine", so I haven't checked it since I first set it up.

I still need to get my CB antenna and cable installed. At least if I dont get to it I can use mine as a handheld with really poor range but decent enough that I can usually talk to the guy in front of me.
