    this is true, pretty much the same thing happened to me I was pulling the rear drum off with screws on my 2nd gen and for some reason I could tell all was not right because of the effort and torque I was putting on the bolts, lo and behold the whole brake pads/springs came flying off the truck, I actually broke those pins that hold the brakes to the backing plate, had to go to advanceauto get a new rear brake spring kit and learn how to redo them on the fly, never had done rears before but it worked out.

    A few additions to make me feel cool.
    Keep in mind when doing drum brakes it is worth it to purchase the correct tools OP. You rarely need them but when you do it sure makes life much easier and they are not very expensive.
