Hi all! So as some of you may know, I have been running my beloved standard travel Fox suspension setup now for about 2 years now. In that time, I have put 30K relatively easy miles on them. They are visually in perfect condition still, however, they have started to squeak and lose some of their dampening abilities so I know I am quickly closing in on time for a rebuild.

My plan is to upgrade to bypass shocks and go full mid travel instead, so I am wondering: Would you have those shocks rebuilt first and then sell them, or sell as is for less $$? As I understand it, its about $300 bucks to have Fox rebuild them including shipping both ways to SoCal from VB. I purchased my rear shocks for $1200 and they still retail for the same amount today. What would you do? If you were going to buy the shocks would you want them rebuilt already?

Are they damaged? Leaking? If not, and they're still completely usable, I'd sell as is for a fair price, taking into account the use they've seen. If the buyer chooses to take the money they saved buying used to have them rebuilt, that's on them. Otherwise, what you'll run into, having them rebuilt and trying to sell them for closer to the price new, is a bunch of buyers trying to lowball you because they have 30K miles on them, regardless of the rebuild.

Ive been looking at possibly getting some used shocks vs a 5100 setup for the short term. I think I would like to have them rebuilt myself or have the documentation of it being done by the manufacturer. Even then though I feel it’s risky. They would need to be pretty low in price for me to take the chance.

Thats a great point, I hadn't considered it that way. No leaks or anything like that! And no way, definitely not damaged. Visually speaking they look brand new as I have barely even taken my truck off the road yet. They did see some aggressive use at a track day at VIR as well as my usual, relatively aggressive driving style, but outside of that they are in perfect condition. Thanks for the info sir, I appreciate that. Just wondering, percentage wise what do you think a 'fair price' would be? I was thinking between 50-60% of retail value w/o rebuild

yeah I wouldn't waste time rebuilding them before selling unless I was able to rebuild them myself or I could get it done easily/locally for cheap.

Why not send em for rebuild and have them upgrade tour shocks to the full mid travel, add reservoirs if you want, and also they could add the adjusters if wanted.

Yeah man, no problem. Just based my comments on years and years of selling used take-off parts.

I think your price would be on the low end of fair, based on condition. If they're $1200 new, I'd start at $900 and give yourself some room to deal.

Already have adjusters and remote reservoirs, and my current shocks are non-bypass.

You could also work out a deal where you send them off to be rebuilt but have them shipped to the buyer after they're done.

I have Kings front and rear, OME HD Springs, and Icon Billet UCA with Timbren Ubolt Flip bumps.. I paid 50% for everything 2nd hand.

I have 2150 in my entire suspension set up.

just a perspective if people start haggling to get you closer to 650 shipped.

Well I am open to offers and I'll hear people out, but these are the top of the line factory series shocks with reservoirs, DSC adjusters, and they're 2.5s... I see your point but at the same time I paid 1300 for them a year ago and they are only half way to needing a rebuild currently, still have some life left

Either way you go, you doomed yourself by posting this thread, because if you sell them without a rebuild, people could find this thread and realize they're blown out.

If you can find a sucker to buy them, cool. But if you could get them rebuilt, have the papers, etc, you could not only sell them confidently, but could ask for a higher price, which would offset some of the rebuild cost.

You are contradicting yourself.......Original post, you say they are closing in on a rebuild, then after much discussion, you say they are only half way to a rebuild. If only half way, why change now?? You should have another 25,000 +/- miles and maybe 2 more years to go.

Not trying to create issues. Good luck!

I'd be a .40 cents on the dollar on those, saving a 100.00 after rebuild doesn't seem like sound business.
