Extang Encore

I recently installed the Extang Encore.
Great feature to be able to access the truck from the cab side.
The lock that comes with the cover will not work with Tacoma bed key so i ended up using a spare older model Yota that i had. Not a big deal to me.
I am sure it is not 100% water proof but there are always alternative ways of remedying that issue, it's just not a concern of mine at the moment as i live in SoCal.
The bed rails were moved down an inch or two, which mounts to the (aluminum, i am assuming) brackets that comes with the cover.

 

Have the same one, and I love it.

also a fan. OP you can get that key deal sorted if you contact them, one less key to carry.

 

I will definitely try that. Did you personally contact them yourself or did you read this from another related thread?

 

I have the same cover and really like it. I used the tailgate key to "program" the lock on the cover and it worked fine.

 

mine keyed right up first try as per the instructions i received. seems i got a bit lucky.

 

Was this with the latest model tailgate key? Mine looks like this:

the key does not fit the lock at all.

 

I have a 2016 and it looks like this.

 

it's my main ignition key. that's what i use.

 

yeah, not great that they changed up the tailgate key but i still love the cover. i just have to carry an extra key.

I haven't tried contacting Extang personally yet but i doubt they would be able to help.

 

Bumping up this old thread....are you guys saying that to install this cover you have to move the bed rails down two inches? Does that involve drilling, and do you know if for a '19 that i still the case?
