Why do people think drum brakes are hard, here's a shot for reference without the hub in the way(passenger side).

And weight savings over steel cable is pretty significant. Plus breakage is far less violent and dangerous with synthetic. I would recc. at least a slimline bumper to hod the winch and provide really good pull points. SOSoffroadconcepts makes a nice one. Roof rack there are a ton of options Prinsu and Front runner are the 2 most common ones, but people DIY them, use Yakima bars or factory bars etc.

Tires is all about what you'll use the truck for and what you want to get out of them soooooo many choices of really good tires out there.

Basic Bilstein lifts are a great start and you can only go up from there. If you plan on carrying any decent loads I'd look into a new HD leaf pack. There are 4 really good options for leaf packs, OME, Deaver, Dobinson, and @Blackout14 (Joe) set he sells. @JimboAnz just did Joe's springs, I have the deavers, VOZ along with many others have the OME. Dobinson is somewhat new to the states but they seem impressive on paper but I don't know anyone directly who is running them.

The springs can be a bitch especially if you don't have a lot of wrenching experience. The horseshoe springs like in the fords are a total PITA. But I agree they are pretty simple and not that hard!

understanding how the parts work and interact helps a lot, most folks just all the "voodoo" in there and get intimidated.

I worked at a "fast food" auto repair chain for a short time many years ago, the regional manager was very surprised that i WILLINGLY tore into rear brakes on three different vehicles on the same day. Says a lot about the quality of "techs" they had.

Not bragging about me, just saying the brakes aren't really that tough if you pay attention, which doesn't happen in most cases

I don't have sliders or skids plus trail limo and I didn't tear anything up. You're good could even do Dutch without them!

I at least want my 1st oil change before I get my 1st scratch/dent..but I did mark the frame! I’ll have my sliders in a few weeks and then get rid of the flimsy sheet metal they call a skid and i’ll feel a little better..and yes I did bail, but I’ll be ready before too long..lol
