Thank you kindly. I am looking to get a deal done in the next 2 weeks. If you get it done before, and your salesman is good, I am willing to drive down and give him the business.

I have emails out to 8 other dealers.

    Thanks again.

I ordered a 2018 TRD Sport DCSB with all the bells and whistles (fully loaded) here in Idaho. Took about 7 weeks to get it in and then we leased it. Wife figured why not lease since my trade in covered all the lease payments (no monthly payment for 36 months). Wife figured she would just save the monthly payments and pay off the residual payment after 36 months. To her it was a 0% loan for 36 months.

The guy you quoted was banned quite a while ago, lol. But they're still leasing and they've never sold this many Tacoma's, so I don't think he was onto anything. I'm one to purchase myself.

I know the dealers tried a couple times to shove the lease down my throat or they ask what type of payment are you looking for?, Dave Ramsey calls it a "Flease", it might be okay for some, and its just my opinion and even though I have owned over 30 vehicles and have lost money on all of them, I still like buying them outright..

We followed Dave Ramsey's plan quite a few years ago. Haven't had debt in a long time.

We did it, but modified. He can be a little extreme on a few things. But the debt snowball makes a lot of sense.

If you've owned over 30 vehicles does that mean you typically keep them for a very short period of time when you buy new?

I just leased my 2nd Tacoma. 1st was a 2015 SR5 DCSB, no frills but lease was only $300.00 a month with 12K miles per year. I was 5 months away from lease end with only 500 miles left so I figured I'd look around and keep all options open.
As it turns out it's close to end of month so the dealer took my 2015, bought out the 5 months got me in a 2018 TRD Off Road loaded with leather, the works. My payments jumped to $375.00 a month but, it's a sweet ride. I know I won't buy it outright cause the residual value is $29K. I figure I'll just drive it unitl I get close to the end of lease and turn it in again. For me leasing works. I get a new vehicle every 3 years and most everything is covered. They had the truck listed at $39K which I think was about $4k too high but, again I got out of a lease early and saved myself $1500.00 plus .18 cents a mile which would have been about another $1500.00 And the best part is I'm still cash flow positive because my company gives me a $500 a month car allowance and pays for all my fuel.

Sounds like you are one of the many people Dave Ramsey has voodoo suckertrapped into believe "NEVER LEASE". You have lost money on over 30 vehicles yet you think leasing is still a bad decision? Pot, meet kettle. Financing makes the most sense if you drive a lot of miles or plan on keeping it forever. A person who leases a Tacoma, then sells it to carmax or a toyota dealer (or private party) has mostly only paid out the depreciation cost of the truck - A cost you would otherwise incur if you financed and sold the truck at some point.

Leasing is actually probably perfectly suited to your lifestyle and I'd bet you would lose less money going the lease route than your current route.

I'm not saying nothing Ramsey says is right, but his stuff is mostly aimed at Financially-Ignorant morons who can't manage their money. It's only a "Flease" when you just go through the motions, and turn the truck back in to the dealer. You get fleased when you lease a dodge with a residual in the 30's, not when you lease a Tacoma with a high 60 or 70 residual.

Remeber, you can still negotiate the selling price of the truck even on a lease. They are probably quoting you full MSRP.
Leasing is great for a business. You get a tax credit and you can have a new vehicle every 3 years under warranty. And with toyotacare for the first two years, all you have to pay for on maintenance is one oil change.
Dave Ramsey has some good ideas and I like the snowball idea, but I cant get behind someone that tells you to drive a beater car and live in a small house and then that same guy pulls up to his outrageous house in a top of the line car. Did he earn it, sure, but how did he earn it? If he really wanted to help people he would offer his books and money saving kits for free, and not charge people already in debt a fee to help them get out of debt, but thats just me.

i never meant to start an argument, Dave ramsey is a very intelligent person who is very successful, I plan on keeping my current vehicles at least 8-10 years. if you take into account what you pay per month for a lease and over say 4-5 years, or even 2-3 years and just keep trading them in, you will always have a payment and never own your vehicle, plus the majority of the time the residual payment at the end is more than what you could have bought it for in the beginning and like I said it was just my opinion since OP asked what we thought

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as hostile as it sounded. I agree, in some circumstances leasing makes no sense, and some it makes great sense. I get irritated when people mention dave ramsey because he primarily targets the financially-illiterate and his advice is shallow and assumes you are a total idiot with your money and need to be told with breadcrumbs how not to live in a trailer. And dont get me wrong, thats a huge part of the US that needs their financial information fed to them this way - but there is a difference between a guy making 30k leasing a Mercedes C Class because thats the only way he can afford payments and a guy making 70k leasing a Tacoma because he wants to get a new truck every 3 years (or someone who writes off the lease payments as a business expense)

Understand, everyone has to figure it out for themselves, but we should listen to experiences in other people’s lives and make a educated decision, enough said on the topic...

My wife and I are still on the fence about leasing. It will all come down to how much of a down payment we can scrap together once some family issues are resolved. If we can get an 8k down payment, we'll buy. If we can only muster 3-4k, we'll lease with the intention of either buying out the lease at some point or at the end. It's all about getting the payment to an affordable level for us. If we're blessed enough to come into some cash, we'll pay it off early and get the pink slip.
