Those are FRS/GMRS radios. Not compatible with the 40 CB channels. But they actually have much better transmit/receive range than CB.

ahh, I guess I get to talk to myself.

I bought them thinking they would work with CB, that stinks.

In the woods I have found that it's a lot better beyond line of sight (BLOS)... in a populated neighborhood it's definitely line of sight especially in the city. Me and my buddy used to see how far we'd get when we were heading home. Even the handheld FRS/GMRS radios sucked in the city. In the woods though both have much greater range - even moreso when properly tuned.

You think it's other electronic interference in the populated areas?

    Lots of sail boat fuel
The frs / gmrs is fine . If we are just not caring about regs the baofengs can just hop on that channel and meet you half way.

Take the HAM test guys. It’s an easy test with the same questions repeated over and over again from the same pool of questions.

I bought a $4.99 phone App and spent an hour or so running through the app’s question and answer format of the SAME DAMN QUESTIONS. Then took the test same evening.

If a 60 year old dude with half a brain can pass, so can you.

@EatSleepTacos took the test as well. Piece o cake.

@twheat40 is also ham certified, and we used them for the first time at rausch a couple weeks ago. We were both blown away at how much clearer it was than CB. We’re believers now

Ill be using a Baofeng HAM as well. I do have an extra if someone wants to use it.

HAM is much better than CB as far as range and call quality goes.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Nothing as far as planned off roading but if that is what you want to do then maybe you can do some of that at the end of each day if you want. The places we are going to will be very good for other activities too like hiking, mountain biking and hopefully (if we can stay where I want to the second night :fingerscrossed:) fishing.
Added. You're going to be camping right?
    Lol
I have a CB and cell but yes I think cell phones are going to be sketchy at best

Yes, Jason. I will passing out my number be gathering everybody's elses a couple of weeks before the trip. I will do it as a group message but if you guys don't want to have everyone in the group have their number they can just reply only to me. That will be up to them.

Also like I said before hopefully I will be giving approximate arriving/leaving times for each location so that people can meet up with the group as wanted/needed
I wouldn't mind borrowing it if you don't mind. Someone will have to give me a crash course because I've never used one before :p

@mach1man001 I was just curious to know what I needed to pack (aka recovery gear) and if I needed to get my winch installed...

As for comms - I guess I'll order a HAM setup as a backup
