Interesting..wonder how that will play out.

My single cab is missing a center console too. But I don't really miss it. The possibilities of other things there is way more tempting to me.

My 5-lug has this weird chirping noise that’s very faint, and doesn’t always appear at idle. After I rev the engine in neutral or drive it around for a while do I hear it. Any idea what it could be off of that vague description?

Does it go away when you push on the clutch pedal?

Yeah all the weird engine noises and excessive rattling go away once the clutch is engaged.

    Throw out bearing.

    Normal. Don't worry about it

Chirping is probably your throwout bearing...I have the same noise, sounds like a thousand angry crickets that go silent one you press the clutch. Its annoying and a common Toyoa problem through the 2nd gens...not really something to worry about. If you're getting a bunch of odd noises though you might be looking at a fucked up clutch lol.

I’m missing about 90% of the interior so that rattling could be something else. But the truck does shake and shudder violently when I shift wrong, which is expected. Still learning! One of these days I’ll feel confident enough to drive it to the Costco to get gas. Doesn’t look very good now though, I keep stalling it when I try to stop for the stop sign two blocks from my house.

That chirping sure does get annoying after a while. Replacing it won’t do anything? Just out of curiosity.

I had my first clutch replaced because of the annoying TOB chirp and 10k miles later it came back with the new clutch. It's just one of those annoying Toyota characteristics you learn to love.

Clutch uas to be pushed to come to a full stop. Have a bit of fun and just rev dump it from the sign, might catch a few eyes but I doubt you'll stall haha. Also you can change the bearing but it's a pita if the clutch is still good.

Yeah it's weird how some people never get it but others do. URD has a fix for 2nd gens but to my knowledge there isn't one for 1st gens...though maybe an aftermarket clutch assembly/TOB would help.

I installed some Quickfists on my roof rack today to hold my shovel, ax, fire extinguisher, etc. Got tired of using hose clamps...things are a giant pain in the ass to get on/off.

One thing I don't get though is how Quickfist says you can use them to hold your hi-lift...my axe is half the weight of my hi-lift and they don't seem to be all that secure holding it. At any rate I mounted my hi-lift to my bed rack using 5/8 bolts. Too dark for pictures but will post some tomorrow.

You put a bolt with a nut through the quickfist to get it to hold a hi-lift. That's how I've seen it done at least

I can stop fine, it’s getting the thing back into gear that’s hard for me. My process is I coast to a stop in Neutral, and brake in Neutral. At the stop sign I try to shift into 1st to get moving but I keep stalling because I feel rushed at the stop sign from the cars behind me.

My friend has a nice 1999 Honda Prelude that he got as his first car, yet he doesn’t know how to drive stick so it’s just sitting there. His dad gave me a lesson in it and I stalled at an intersection trying to get from Neutral into 1st. Battery was dead for a while so when it stalled we couldn’t restart it. Luckily we were carrying a jumper pack with us. Funny how I drove my friends car before he even drove it.

I rushed because of the car that pulled up behind me. I took my foot off the clutch too fast and I stalled it.

I got out and told the car to go around ya and they’re all like “Y’all need help?” and they laughed at me when I told them I was learning Manual. Haha.

Yeah that's how I mounted the Quickfists, bolt through them and secured with a washer/nut. But the rubber compound itself bends pretty far with the weight of the hi lift, I can definitely see the Quickfist letting go of it once you hit some dirt and rough terrain.

It's such well engrained second nature to me I forget how hard resuming from a stop can be the first few times. It is an important time to teach yourself discipline because anyone can get moving by applying too much gas and letting the clutch out slow, so as long as your stalling you're at least on your way to become a good manual driver haha. You get to the point where you don't even think about how you apply gas and let out the clutch, even towing I hardly let it slip and it's only after I'm moving that I even remember I should be doing something different. haha
