Riding Anxiety?

i've noticed that my 14 month old apbt has developed like an anxiety when i take him somewhere in my truck. When he was a puppy he rode great but now he pants like he's really hot while shaking like he's scared? Any thoughts on why he's developed this habit?

 

my dog does this as well. i just blast the ac on her and shes good... she ends up laying down on the seat after a little bit.

A/C or the back, my dogs just get to excited thats why they start panting

 

my beagle does exactly the same thing... nothing helps except to just put her in the bed.

The vet had mentioned getting her a small dosage of xanex for long trips.

 

apbt( amaerican pit bull terrier) haha, i do blast the a/c but then he starts like quivering?

as for the long road trips idk how he'd do. i'm talking about like a 5 minute drive to the park or friends house etc...

 

Our dog used to. When we open the window, she stopped.

 

i also do this, she usually sticks her head out the window when we are doing around 40 mph and is ok for a while.

 

i'll have to try the window thing, so it's just because of how excited he is?

i get scared when i ride with other people, esp. my friends. theyre all asian tho.

esp the asian girls. i get hella scared.....

 

My dogs a psycho, and go nuts whenever she remotly thinks she maybe going for a ride. In the truck, she pants her hot trash breath for a while, than calms down an farts for a while. I want to get a cap so I can have a be back there for her. My dog is a mut, half lab, mixed with german shorthair pionter and pit, and only 22lbs. She just turned 7

 

Did something happen? Panic stop? Music too loud?

This might sound silly, but you can "fix" the problem. It will take some time and patience, though. Do not bounce around and say "'wanna go for a ride" Just be calm. Put the leash on the dog, and walk him out to the truck, say "up" "get in" or whatever you want his "word" to be. Put him in for a second or two, tell him "sit", once he is sitting, then take him out, and go back in the house, take the leash off, end of exercise. Gradually increase the time you leave him in the truck. Once he can stay in the truck for a few minutes, calmly (no panting, shaking), then turn it on. Leave on for a few seconds, then shut off, take him out of the truck. Once he can stay calm with the truck on, put in gear and back out of the driveway, then pull back in the drive way, turn off, get out, end of exercise. As long as he remains calm, gradually, start taking longer rides. (had to do that with my dads dog - she'd get sick). If he likes going for walks, to petsmart, dog park, make that something fun for him to do while out. Maybe he associates car rides with going to the VET

Mine get excited to go for a ride and bounce around like maniacs, but once in the truck they settle down and when we get moving, they just lay down.

It's a good idea to roll down the window and let them stick their head out.
Dogs do this because it keeps them from getting car sick.
With the window up there is no wind to coincide with the movement of the truck.
The dog may be getting nervous because he is getting sick and doesn't want to throw up in your truck. He's been trained not to make messes inside.

So try rolling down the window.

 

9 times out of 10 we're going somewhere fun for him...but i'll try that
