Yea, I was used to a Chevy manual transmission before my tacoma that was a fun experience. I kept thinking something was wrong with the clutch but it was just me little bit of a timing adjustment on clutch to gas and I got it nailed down. One thing that bugs me is when I have to drive an automatic and I think I have to shift gears

In Washington you don’t have to have mudflaps on your truck as long as the road isn’t wet. Cause that makes a huge difference.

Are you pivoting your foot or lifting it with the clutch? I was lifting and I could never get enough gas. I started to pivot my foot via the heel and then I got it down.

I just went to lowes and picked up some screws that roughly matched one of the ones I pulled out. The specific screw I got was a #12x1-1/4 in. They came in packs of four. I think I paid like $1.50

I believe I pivot it. It's a lot more effective than lifting your foot.

Well just keep practicing then. You'll get it, I'd just practice going from stop to first and stop again. Keep doing that as going from 1st to 2nd to etc. is easy as pie. Also try and feel when the clutch grabs, it's easier with a tachometer as you can see where the rpms are right before you stall. But you ripped that out. Once you figure out where it grabs add gas obviously

My mom pretty much said screw everybody else they can wait. She forced me to drive to orientation at school when I was learning. I kept stalling and the person behind me finally realized what I was doing and gave me a good 20 ft buffer

If I swap out the bench it'll be for something with armrests on the seats, rather than a console. Would love to have that area open for throwing shit (even just a camera bag.) There's just no room in the regular cabs, not worth the premium price tacoma consoles get.

Better than my first lesson, some asshole didn't even wait a second to honk at me then flipped me off as he drove pass me. I did the next best thing with was lay on the air horns in my dad's truck. Saw him jump in his seat and almost through the windshield. Alot of people don't understand patience anymore.

He might do better witout a tach by listening to the revs and feeling for the truck starting to roll as the clutch grabs. Just take it easy and slow and you'll be ripping through the gears in no time

That's true, if you do get bucket seats you can get a Rubbermaid tote for the cab for example

Exactly this @BartMaster1234, find a big parking lot and practice.

The hardest part when you’re learning is going from a dead stop. You don’t choke it down going from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd etc... you get the first part down and you’re golden.

The only other advice I would give you as you begin driving around is you have to downshift or put in neutral when coming to a stop. I remember when I first learned as a teenager I’d have it in 5th and brake to stop and forget it was still in a high gear as the truck was having a full on seizure going below 20 mph in 5th gear.

If I could drive it to a parking lot I would, lol.

I always coast to a stop in Neutral.

Even when you get to be a pro at it, it still sucks when someone pulls up right behind you in some situations (like on a steep hill). I usually give a little roll back and sometimes the person can figure out what that means, other times they just honk and freak out haha.

When I first started driving by myself at 16 or 17 years old, I was leaving a Best Buy parking lot and the lady in front of me rolled right back into my car when the light turned green. I had given her a good 8 ft of distance too, and she slowly rolled right into my bumper while revving her engine. I knew right away what had happened, she got out and apologized profusely saying she was learning to drive stick. Luckily no harm no foul.
