New Bilstein 8112 Coilovers !

Not being a dick about it but doesn't make sense for Toyota to change the front or rear suspension mounts in under 2 years of production of a relatively new 3rd gen Tacoma.

 

I agree with you, it surprised me when I was told this... so, I will wait to see how all this develops and see the new 2019 TRD Pro Fox suspension.

 

Can anyone offer more insight on whether the 8112 fronts & 8100 rears are actually 2018 compatible?

I have developed a massive, crippling crush on these... but apparently not compatible with my 2018.

If not, why not? Makes no damn sense. Did Toyota really change the geometry just for 2018? New stock UCA design? I’m grumpy and I need answers!

@yellowdogpaddler not trying to argue with the info you received - basically just going thru the stages of grief on this one. 4 wheel parts tried to tell me the Mickey Thomson Wheels I was looking at wouldn’t fit my truck - they were wrong and I suspect it was related to wanting to sell me something they had on hand. BilsteinUS is another story, however...

The idea that a company like Bilstein has brought a new (for Tacoma), top of the line product to market that doesn’t even fit the current model year is super fishy.

Even Bilstein’s own current spec sheet PDFs explicitly list 2018 compatibility for both front & rear:

Just got off the phone with tech dept at Bilstein’s Aftermarket & Motorsport HQ in Poway, CA And was told that the 8112 and 8100 shocks are absolutely compatible with 2018 Tacos. No chassis or suspension mount changes yet for Gen 3’s.

@yellowdogpaddler Who did you speak with at Bilstein? Just wanna make sure I cover my bases before pulling the trigger.

 

Would love to hear your impressions on the shocks once you get them - they are high on my list.

 

Anyone here have specs on what the standard spring rate of the coil is? Someone previous had mentioned that they were running 675lb 14” Eibach springs with these.

Can you select different coil options at time of purchase?

 

Standard spring rate is 600, I know one of the bilstein trucks with bumper and winch was running 675 14x3 eibach coils, and I know Shawn swapped his out and I believe he will be offering them with heavier coils soon. I'm swapping mine out with 650 coils once the alluinum cbi bumper and winch goes on.

 

Getting the 8112+8100 combo but stuck on which leaf pack to pair with it. Did you end up getting the Dakars? Thx!

 

More than likely orderting the icon txt pack this week. Although I'm supposed to call deaver and see what they can make me.

 

I have the 8112 fronts and Icon rxt springs ready to install. I just need to find the 8100 rears in stock some where. I am getting a little frustrated with retailers that say they have something in stock but are really drop shipping from Bilstein. I have been told that it could be July before more come available.

 

I’m running Icon RXT’s and they are great. The fact that you can customize them yourself with 3 different options for weight carrying was what sold me on the pack.

 

You're running rxt packs with 8100's?

 

I’m running RXT packs with TRD Pro 6112/5160’s for now but plan on pairing the 8112/8100’s.

I’m just saying I’ve been very happy with the adjustability and ride of the RXT’s.

My understanding with the Deaver packs is that you are committed once you order and modifying number of leaves or swapping in thicker leaves is more difficult.

 

Really interested in lift heights with the rxt pack on the third gens, I know they stated 1.875 on the first setting but from what I'm picking up that's the number for 2nd gens, and many companies say 3rd gens tend to have less lift from packs than 2nd gens. Dakars 2.75in 2nd gen and 2in 3rd gen for example. I haven't found much info on the rxt packs even though they look like a solid pack.

 

I just ordered the 8100 rear's last week from Race Consulting Agency. Bilstein told them that they would ship within 2-3 weeks. My 8112 fronts are lonely waiting for them in their boxes

 

Just arrived last week. Will install next week!

 

I know a dude who is selling his tacoma and as a result is selling his 8112's with 1000 miles on them and uninstalled Bnib 8100's for way under what they're going for, sub $3000. Pm me and ill get you in touch with him.

Front looks like +2” (which is how it’s set up w/preload) rear Deavers are WAY up there (+4”??) but shop said they’d settle.

No offroad yet but it feels good on the street... 35mph speedbumps no sweat .

In other news... asked shop about regearing to 4.88 (which they do and quoted) but was given a pretty frank recommendation against it. I guess it leaves fewer teeth in contact which increases the chance of a failure. Hard one to deal with on the trail or in Baja... he had some stories.
