Alright fellas need some opinions. I ordered the SDHQ CV boot kit last year. Finally hot around to rebooting my OEM shafts and had to have them installed last week. SDHQ says their boots are tight and dont need the inner clamps so they dont ship any. My gut said put some on anyways but then there are stories of people having defected boots and SDHQ wouldnt warranty them cause they put clamps on. So I wanted to give their product the benefit of the doubt. After having them installed I drove straight home and when I got home there was grease weeping out. I called the tech line and they said it was normal that it would have to purge itself and should stop. Check it in a week. Well not quiet a week yet but I checked it yesterday and not happy with what I found. So do I just clean it up put some clamps on and hope its still got enough grease in the boots or do I try to find a way to get grease back in the boots. I really dont wanna pull these shafts back out exspecially since I just paid to have them installed last week. I did put a total of 3/4 a tube per boot, and when I say tube I mean the tubes you would put in a full size grease gun. Whats yalls thoughts? 20180430_180437.jpg 20180430_180453.jpg 20180430_180506.jpg

Holy shit that is a lot of grease. I would not characterize that as a "purge" but what do I know? If it were me I would be making sure there was enough grease in there, putting clamps on, and rechecking after a day or two.

Edit: I guess that would be a purge, but it sure doesn't seem normal!

I agree! I went to the parts store right down the road to get some clamps and he looked at it. He said shit thats a hell of mess. I said tell me about it. So I asked him if he thought I should try to rig up a tube to slide into the boot where its not clamped and he informed me they have a injection needle just for that shit. So I picked one up and another tube of grease. Now to start the clean up and fix this shit.

I am no expert, but is it possible you put too much grease in, and this is the purge?

That’s what I’m wondering. 3/4 tube is a lot of grease. Not sure if cleaning and waiting a day to see how bad it gets would be a good idea or not haha

    That's a mess.

Get an inner boot clamp, regardless of what SDHQ says. I run their boots, and get the clamps from NAPA. You can also get a pre-measured bag of grease from napa, but it's about 3/4 of a cup worth of grease. Also make sure there isn't excess air under the boot.

I have no idea. I mean anything is possible. Does anyone know exactly how much one should use per boot?

If 3/4 of a cup is all they require then I have put way to much in.

So just got off the phone with SDHQ they say I put too much grease in. So now he suggests that I pull the outer clamp off and peel the boot back to make sure that there is enough grease in there and clamp back down. So I guess I will be getting busy doing this now. Wish there was an easier way to tell.

I would listen to @Arcticelf, even though that he doesn't have an avatar, he seems to know his shit.

And I also think that 3/4 of a tube would be way too much.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the post above.

I'd open it up, wipe most of it out with a rag, and then start from scratch.

If you have a NAPA close by go get grease from them, it comes in a bag, and is pre-measured.

Also remember the straw trick when you put it back together.
