Do you have the 3.31 or the 3.55 axle ratio?

I wanted to buy a Tundra, I really did.

But I realized I could get an F150 slightly cheaper and it has Android Auto, a locking rear diff and 4-5 more MPG...not to mention all the other stuff that was standard on an XLT 302a that I would have had to jump to a Tundra Limited for.

No argument that the roads in Boston suck, but some of our frost heaves are pretty epic.

Ford is like 10 years ahead of Toyota in their trucks, I say that with confidence. I also had a shit ton of issues with mine and I don't think they are as reliable long term, and their re-sale is dogshit, if you don't keep it for 10 years, don't buy a ford.

That said, my springs squeak, my diff howells and my MPG is way worse on my taco.... Dealer won't fix my problems either, at least ford dealer tried..

I love my Taco and don't regret it for a second, but I sorta expected better from Toyota's service departments and I would have thought they would fix the springs and rear diff from the factory now after 3 years of complaints.

Having it looked at this week, fingers crossed for a cheap fix. I have a guy who does all custom exhaust stuff and I've used him for 25 years, so here's hoping.

This ford is cutting edge right now and because of that a myriad of problems tend to pop up around the end of accurate accelerated life tests.. i.e 150k
Yota stays with classic designs longer and tend not too release a truck motor without years or actual life test. With their recent expansion in the market and changes in production they have had some frustrating issues definitely but i have no doubt in ten to 15 years the 3rd gen will be just as proven as the 2nd gen. And maybe they will come close to the first gen tacos and tundras

I would be flat-out amazed if anything that is being produced today turned out to have the longevity of the earlier models, Toyota or otherwise. Yes, mechanically there have been a lot of advancements, but electronically? The direct wiring connections of the past vs everything electronic being run through a CPU now doesn't make me hopeful for long-term reliability on most modern vehicles.
I mean, 20 years ago if your power window stopped working, odds were was either the switch or the motor. But now? Could be the switch, the motor, a bad body control module, bad cpu, bad pressure sensor in the window...practically anything, including the CPU just needing a reflash because it's having a moment. And you can forget checking what the problem is with a simple circuit tester, lol.

Plus the proliferation of electronic everything now. I'm old school, prefer no power windows and such. Damn near impossible to find now.

On your window sticker, would be the easiest place to find it. There's other tags on the truck that will say, but the window sticker should state it

I’m super hopeful that some tech wizards will soon catch up to the “cpu” era in automotive and create some open ended software to troubleshoot and diagnose the cpu side of the car. That being said basic cpu’s like those in cars now have been going strong on millions of medical devices for the past 20 years so i am hopeful that Toyota has their shit together

Well, it looks like you can pull anywhere from 14K to 15K, depending on what rear axle ratio you have, according to Ford's chart. With the hitch, at least.
With a gooseneck/5th wheel it looks like 14k to 14,700.

    https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/conten.../pdf/guides/18RV&TT_Ford_SuperDtyPU_Nov27.pdf

Fingers crossed, but I'm still skeptical. It's the Luddite in me, lol.

Edit- On the other hand, at least everything's not still vacuum-operated.

Spray graphite between the leafs or use spacers like I believe OME uses on their packs now. Take apart the diff and see what's wrong in there too if it sounds bad. I wouldn't complain for 3 years about what I could fix in an afternoon.

The dealer fixing it issue is probably limited to the one you go to. Some people have really great experiences with the dealer, some people don't. My local dealer doesn't like to do any work unless I'm paying an arm and a leg for it.

One local dealer is a cheat as far as I'm concerned, and the other is the one I'm working with.

Anyways, I haven't been complaining for 3 years, owners of 16+ tacos have, making it a problem for 3 years. They acknowledged the problem on the 16 and 17's but won't yet on the 18, even though they are the same thing. The howelling diff just needs plugs. And the pads would fix the springs. The parts are literally at the dealer, they just won't put them in my truck because Toyo corporate says not yet, we need to hear a million more complaints first. They told me to keep complaining and eventually they will add it to the TSB list. It is a known issue Toyota is trying to ignore. It doesn't bother me enough to spend an afternoon of my time and money on products for something they will fix on their own after a while.

I'd bet anything a Tundra will last longer than my F-150. But, I don't tend to hold onto vehicles all that long because I get bored of them. The Tacoma was the longest, and only because I also bought a house and couldn't swing two purchases like that at the same time. I'll be surprised if I have this truck past 100k.

@LivinLoud it floats! Got a piece put on the front and the side fixed by someone local. A new paint job and motor and it’s good as new! Got your Bill of sale but didn’t see anything but a screw inside the boat as far as tools or attachments go.
