Actually, I really appreciate the insight on the trail conditions. I don’t have 4WD, skids, or slides. But, I do have (a little) common sense and certainly don’t mind walking a section of the trail before trying it out so I can pick the best line without causing any damage. Thats why I like to wheel with others also.

That timeframe works out better for me and I can leave as early as Weds of that week but have to back in San Diego by Tuesday afternoon...

Would this be doable in a stock DCLB 4x4? No skids and no sliders.

Looks like 2 groups are going to go... one on the weekend of the 20th and one on the weekend of the 27th. The 27th group will probably more stock rig friendly.

I'm headed that way and I only have a front skid as of now. 2.5 months is a long time for mods lol

I have no skids or sliders and might not have them anytime soon. I have King 2.5's but I'm pretty much at stock height still since I hardly cranked the collar down much. I wont be able to make it through anything crazy either, and I am DCLB so not the best clearance. I bet you guys with the stock Taco's should be fine as long as you have a decent tire.

I won’t be attempting anything too wild but I’m also rocking a DCLB so I drag my ass end on almost everything lol

Hopefully we can get a good group going of guys that wanna do hard stuff vs casual exploring. Besides - I’m most likely going to be bringing my GF and with such a short weekend I’m sure it’ll be mostly hot springs, hiking, and tons of pictures lol

Likewise. My main reason for going is to get out in the beautiful countryside and to hang with some fun TW peeps out in the wild. No major rock crawling for me.

Upper/Lower Deadman Campgrounds. Next to a creek, FREE , No reservations, 21 day limit, fires OK, pets OK. This spot seems like it might be a winner if not to crowded.

Not the one near Kern lol. Never been to the one in Mammoth but it looks pretty sweet.

So is the date definitely solidified for 7/27? Or are we able to switch over to the weekend prior?

We did this ride last year and had no issues with rocks or felt that skids were needed. About 1 mile into the trail, starting at the turnoff from Sherwin Creek Rd, there is a section of rutted and rocky turns. That was the only section that had rocks that were large enough to warrant any concern. That rutted section was maybe a quarter mile long. My truck is has a 2 1/2 inch lift but was heavy with passengers and camp gear/water/firewood... so I'm guessing I was riding at maybe 1 to 1 1/2 inches over stock in the rear end. I did not hit any underbelly anywhere on the trail. It's just a go-slow and look section for a little bit. Most of the trail is easy with some sections towards the lake looking like this pic below, grapefruit size rocks that were no problem:

The pic below was taken at the trail head looking up trail. Just to the right, as you loose sight of the trail in this pic, is where the rocky and rutted section begins. It is close enough to the trail head to check out and determine if the 2wd's should continue. Again, after that section the trail has smaller rocks up to the lake.
