Yea, the dealer will not even look twice at the sidewall of a tire. They strictly go by the manufacturers setting on the sticker you will find either on the inside of the door pillar, or in some cases on the inside of the center armrest console lid.

As well, some installers know this and won't go by the tire sidewall either. That PSI rating for the tire is strictly to tell you what the max allowed pressure is. Max pressure would only be under extreme towing circumstances. Look at the gross weight the tire can handle at the max pressure, subtract the weight of the truck, and that is how much each tire can carry. Multiply that number by 4 (4 tires) and that is the max load those 4 tires can carry. It will be a hell of a lot more than these trucks are rated to carry in the bed.

But all that is for towing. SO take the max towing weight, then take 10% of that for the tongue weight, and drop that on top of half the weight of the truck and that is the max weight on the tires.

All this is using rough numbers and quick math. But I think you get the idea.

50 psi though is the max those tires can be inflated safely. Regardless of anything. 5 psi though likely feels like a train on rails.

The true test is the chalk test.

Go to the dollar general and buy a bunch of childrens chalk, those big colored sticks. They are the most powdery.
Inflate your tires to the PSI you want, in my case 36/37.
Drive to a parking lot that is flat and relatively gravel free.
Check the pressure of your tires again and adjust if needed. Go with them higher so you can let a little out if needed. Unless you have a compressor.
take the chalk and cover every part of the tread on each tire, and even roll it forward to get the part on the bottom.
Drive the truck 20 or 30 feet very slowly keeping the steering wheel straigt. Get out and look at the chalk.

If there is chalk missing from the middle, too much air. Let a little out and go again.

If you have no chalk on the outside and a line around the middle there is not enough air. "Cupping" will occur.

This is also a good way to see if your tie rods need to be adjusted. If you have chalk missing from the inside or outside edge you may need an alignment.

Yea, and likely why I have yet to do the infamous chalk test myself.

Here's my tread wear after 12k miles, and I have only rotated them twice.

    Looks pretty even to me.

Yea, and I know it is against the rules here to condone irrational driving behaviors so I will just say phhht, please, these are my go to tire!

Now, if after say 30k miles they start exhibiting weird characteristics like my last love affair tire (Goodyear Duratracs) then it will be back to the drawing board.

Well, I had the C load on my 4Runner Trail. They were unstoppable in the snow. Made the Runner amazing, on snow, dry and rain roads. It was incredible grip. Best tires I ever ran. Then at 30k miles they started to delaminate, traction got worse, and then they started getting loud as hell.

The straw that broke the camels back was a loss of traction on wet roads and me rear ending a 1980s F250 POS. I was unfortunate to have a bull bar (also on my never buy list now). We were doing maybe 10 - 15 mph in traffic, and he stopped and I tried. I was maybe 10' behind him. Slid into him. The guy got out looked at his truck, looked at my Runner, laughed, got back in and left. The bull bar distributed the impact to the entire front end.

I'm hoping these tires make it past 40k miles. I have heard reports of a lot more. Right now I can't tell they are wearing. Sadly, the Duratracs looked good too at 30k.
