Decided to take the bike out of storage today and do my spring maintenance. I bought new batteries for both the racebike and the street RC51’s I have. Got those in and started the street bike and brought it up to temp while doing my checks of the basic safety and maintenance stuff. Sure enough the top of my calf pressed against the pipe and gave me my first burn in decades.

Well a bit more cleaning and time for the first ride of the year.

 Don't mean to laugh, those burns can be painful!

I remember a time when I had a FMF logo burned into my calf from riding my 125 in shorts

How long is the street season for you in Ontario?

Usually a lot longer. This year we had 70deg weather in February and then cold and snow ever since. 2 weeks ago we had freezing rain. So pretty much every time the salt got washed away from the rain and the temperature was co-operating 2 days later it was below freezing. I had frost on the grass yesterday morning before work but today it is above 70 again.

Most years we can ride from April to October consistently and a month or more at each end of the season depending on how you can handle the cold or if the weather holds. I am not a kid anymore so I don’t bother to go out unless it is nice out.

Yikes, yeah no fun nor is it safe when it's that cold out. 70 is nice though, no fun sitting at a light in full gear when it's hot haha.

Full gear or take the truck. You can’t pick and choose when you will go down or get taken out. If it is hot in gear then think about how hot and uncomfortable it gets when those full body scabs don’t breath and start itching. Luckily my biggest road rash was about the size of a nickel.

I know some who figure they have never been down or hit so why so much gear. Let me tell you leather gets damn hot when sliding at 120+mph (racetrack). But if it is hot than what would your skins coefficient of friction be?

So like I said yesterday had frost on the grass and today was above 80. I had on my Dianese textile jacket and pants and was absolutely roasting. Not acclimatized to the warmer weather yet.
