Awesome, thanks! Mine is present from 53-61 and loudest at 57. Hoping for the same or similar results! I already had my rear exterior completely out as well as the rear cab mounts. Once I have the TSB parts in hand this should be cake for me ha ha

Well, purchasing dealer will not help with the parts. They said they can’t because another dealer is involved with my Tacoma and the rear diff howl. He said this causes their hands to be tied. I feel that’s not really how that works? But oh well. I’ll order the parts Monday and go from there.

The parts are MUCH cheaper online than through dealer. I think the retail price for each Damper is 125 or so, I paid 81 each....similar discount for the other pieces if you choose to get them. Also, seeing people waiting weeks to get them, which I thought I would too, but they arrived in 4 days.

Yeah, the parts have been in my camelback cart for a few weeks now ha little over $225 there. Now that I know my dealer won’t help I’ll be pulling the trigger. Hopefully howl free (or close to it) by next weekend!

After shipping parts were about $237 for me. However, I used paypal and Chase which will give me 6% back. The parts will end up costing me about $222.

Can't wait to get them installed! Hoping for some good results ha

So guys, forgive me for not scrolling all 225 pages of the thread. My 2018 4X4 OR makes a faint, but mind-losingly (is that a word?!) noise that sounds like: "wooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh."

Is this what you guys are refering to? Drives me insane!

If it occurs between 50 and 60 MPH then most likely yes, mine is loudest at 54.

Yeh that sounds like it. 50-65mph range. They will patch it with dampeners and foam. No TSB for 2018s AFAIK or ACs for 16/17s.

Yep it's definitely within this range of speed that mine makes that noise. Thanks everyone.

I’ve had two dealers turn down fixing my 2018. Yours is an Off-road though so maybe you will have better luck. Wouldn’t hurt to ask them.

I've already got dynamat in the rear of my cab so that takes care of half what the dealer does (and probably more effectively.

Changed my rear diff fluid about a week ago and the howling is almost completely gone in my truck. I've heard it a couple times but its much more faint and occurs in a smaller range than before. I think I'll be content unless the rear diff blows up.

You should still definately get it documented. I think it's pretty sad myself when you have people buying their own parts and putting them on because Toyota will not address the issue that has been identified.

The TSB still doesn't sit well with me but I guess its better than nothing . The rear end is just cheaply made. Get it documented and bitch. Hopefully the numbers dont lie and they will fix the root cause with an engineering fix at the factory and not an easy out fix.

How loud was your howl before and after the dynamat and at what mph range? I was going to install sound deadener at the same time I do the TSB, but heard the sound deadener doesn’t help much with the howl.

Definitely loud enough to be annoying in the 50-60 mph range. I've noticed a difference from the dynamat, but I do an extensive amount of driving so I was looking to cut down on some of the road noise since I run the rear seats folded down almost 100% of the time.

I've got a single layer of dynamat from the storage bins back and up the rear of the cab.

I will probably do the same if the TSB doesn’t help a ton. Mine is pretty loud so I bet it will be needed ha

I just dropped of my 2017 trd spoert 4x4 at the dealer for howling noise between 40-50mph. test drove with tech and he said he heard it but thinks it may be wind noise or normal. I said no way it just started at 9,327 miles. its also there for another noise. they have been very helpful so Im hoping for a good outcome foreman and advisor are good dudes

my 2018 sport access cab M/T is getting worse, only has 4k on it. starts at 55, gets real loud at 60 and quiets down above 65 again. I think I need to take it in and get it on the dealerships radar. I would change the fluid but it don't want them saying its my fault for doing so.

    shellshock-what oil did you use?

anybody try a heavier weight oil? 75-140?

    TIA

Several throughout this thread have with no change. I would say this guy's dynamat is what helped him.

I wouldn't worry about getting blamed by the dealer for changing the fluid. It's routine maintenance just like oil changes.
