    Interesting,
Here is my background and dilemma.
I've traveled to Switzerland and Italy last year with my Mavic Pro. It's an amazing machine, no issues yet. This time when I travel I'll be gone for one month and I'm an ultra light packer. I shave off weight wherever I can. I have a small 22L backpack and it weighs roughly 14lb with my limited clothes, toiletries, Mavic Pro and Surface Pro. Should I pull the trigger and go with the Mavic Air instead of taking my Mavic Pro? I don't always carry my backpack, whenever I can I leave it behind at the hotel room but when I go to the next destination I must carry the backpack. It's just nice carrying less weight.

For those who backpack we all know weight is always an issue. I'm just debating whether the amount of money offsets having to carry an extra pound or so of weight plus volume.
Again, my aim is strictly travel this time.
    Any input is welcomed.

Are you going to sell your mavic pro? I can’t imagine the weight savings being greater than a pound at most. I don’t think it’s worth the hassle

The short answer is no, probably not.
I believe the Mavic pro with the fly more combo is 4.8lbs but I'll have to check when I go home today.

Ya, I can’t imagine you’re going to be saving any more than a pound at most. If that one pound is worth another grand then sure. I wouldn’t personally do it though.

Yes, roughly one pound and a few cubic inches.
I thought it would be more considering the Pro is nearly twice as heavy as the Air, same with the batteries.
Thanks for your help, I just couldn't find that information.

I went to fly my Mavic just before dark. When I tried to connect the phone to the remote I remembered the new Note 8 has a type C connector. Oh well I ordered type C connector from Amazon Prime.

It only does if you are actively recording and your video cache on your phone isnt full yet. If you are just flying around without recording, then the video feed being sent to the phone isnt saved.

For anyone following my tale, here is the conclusion: I opened a dispute with PayPal when DJI claimed I had ascended into 'something', even though google map images show there is nothing even close by that I could have crashed into. They were correct that I was ascending when the drone suddenly quit and fell into a river.

Anyway the dispute had to be opened against the seller, Drone World. DW read my flight logs and claimed I descended into the river, which is ridiculous since I was ascending when the drone quit. But, I was able to show that DJI said one thing while DW said basically the opposite, which I used as evidence that the flight logs are either useless or someone was lying. DW never responded again, so I escalated the dispute to a claim, and again they didn't respond, so the claim was found in my favor, full refund, case closed.

Nice! Glad you got your money back. Still a major bummer that you lost the drone though.

How did he lose it? Stolen or in flight? I just picked up a spark for my trip to Cali and Mt. Hood and seems pretty hard to lose unless it loses signal. But I know it’s possible.

well he had a new pro, and because of the signal issue there have been issues with them just going off by themselves and flying away. his actually flew away mid flight. i can tell you from my experience with my spark, its been pretty spot on and haven't had any serious issues minus a chinoook almost hitting it. i've flown it in some pretty crazy wind also which made it a little harder. what part of cali you going to? i downloaded the b4ufly ap on my andriod and it helped out finding out what spots i couldn't fly and what spots i could.

Damn I don’t even want to imagine the feeling of having to watch your $600+ toy just fly away and not have any control of it...

I’m use to flying little drones with no cameras on them, I’m pretty good at maneuvering them around objects and in the house. But Hungtion beach and maybe down to Baja. First thing I did was picked up a OTG cable so i don’t run into problems. Thanks on the app. Just downloaded it

Flight has never been cheap or for the faint hearted. I revisit one of those lessons it seems like every time I fly.

The worst happened. I was in the front yard around 500 ft out and around 100ft up then disconnected. Hit return home when it came up and never came back. Found it crashed in the street. Anyone know why?
