Solution: Buy a first gen. Easy to find in manual and first gen lemons don't exist because they're the best.

Had a lot off issues. Truck turned off on the highway, had the dealer replace the CPS even though it was a 17 and wasn't part of the recall for shutting off. It then happened again. Also had the front clam shell bushing replaced, but that's a known issue. Aside from that the passenger side door came open while driving twice, only happened when hitting a bump in the road. The rear end had seepage as well.

The dealer noticed my abnormal service history and offered to buy it back since I had used them before. Ended up getting 34 something and paying 1k under invoice on my 4runner. So not exactly a lemon since no paperwork was done. The rear diff recall would have been enough time out of service to qualify. Co-worker of mine also had his diff done on the recall, they kept his truck for 2+ months.

My mindset was that I could be patient and eventually I would work out the bugs, but the shutting off issue was too unnerving.

I've spent the last year driving an auto CRV after I sold my Acura TL six-speed. I have twenty years of solid manual ownership on my resume, and I'm wondering if I don't find the perfect truck with a stick if I would be happy with an automatic. Say, pick a color you like much less with the stick, knowing you'll never spend the money to repaint. Stinks that manuals are more rare/more expensive.

    Good question.

ATs are an added cost option on the Taco.

I was looking at an MGM Sport and a my BR Sport. I liked MGM, but it is nearly identical to our Forester. I really wanted QS and never owned anything red other than a toy wagon. I thought that I could live with BR and really fell for it when I saw it in person.

MT was most important. I have a totally irrational hate for every type of AT, even DC gearboxes. Given what is said about ATs around here, it would have been a massive mistake for me to buy one.

    Just sayin'.

I didn't have a particular opinion as to what color I should buy (except black, never again) until I saw Spruce Mica. Dear Lord. Pure pornography.

The goal would be to find one in MT. I'm going to do everything I can to find the right one.

Yup. I always wanted a black car / bike, but I put scratches on the Taco within the first week or so. It's a truck, so no big deal. Also, it's kinda fun to polish out trail pinstripes.

Oh yeah. I would have jumped on that green machine if one was available. A toned down blue, esp midnight blue if available, would have me waiting however long for one. Thankfully, that was a non-issue.

Nope! I spent a lot of time adding black to the Taco. I think I am finally done after derping the grille (if I can let the wheels alone for now).

Nah, but after having both a regular car and an offroader in black, it taught me that trying to keep it looking decent was not a skill I had. Bonus points for the Spruce Mica for having a nostalgia factor for my favorite ride to this point.

@St.Germain , I guess I'll have to eat my words soon. A certain shift knob has reportedly cleared customs and is a few days away from landing in my mailbox.

    Pics to follow.

    That is all.
