I have been having a lot of issues with 2016 TRD OR 4x4 entune system crashing and disconnecting my phone at random times. I’ve already been dealing with Toyota which they have replaced the system once and didn’t fix the issue, now they are saying it’s not compatible with the iPhone. I’ve been thinking about just putting in an aftermarket system to see if that fixes the issue. Has anyone else changed their system out and what system did you change it to?

Does your phone have trouble connecting to other devices?

My android phone won't connect to 3 devices I tried, but my wife's android tablet connects fine. Something wrong with the phone itself I guess.

Yes I thought about that too, I just upgraded last December to the iPhone 8 so I could see if Apple would replace it but then again if I do that and I still have the same issues I’m still in the same boat.

No never have had issues with it before on anything else except the truck, but ever since I’ve purchased the truck back in 2016 I’ve had issues and I had an iPhone 6s then.

Yep I’ve been dealing with it for almost two years now. Every time I have gone in for an oil change or tire rotation I’ve told them about the issue.

You can try smartphone mirroring kit. No more Bluetooth connection, you can connect your iPhone or Android device to factory Toyota screen.

Good luck getting any help from Toyota. This is a topic beat to death over on the 4Runner forum. My son has had the issue almost since new and is about ready to finally grab a Kenwood system.

I replaced the old Toyota radio in my FJ with a Kenwood. I did it so I could get an in dash camera monitor. The old 2008 radio worked just fine for music.

I think it's an IOS issue. I get the same exact thing in my Tundra. Every other call gets dropped and the head unit reboots.

    It's great for business....:frusty:

When I talked to Toyota the lady said that their engineers are testing up to iOS 11.1 right now when we are on 11.3.1. So pretty much what she was saying is that this issue won’t be fixed because they can’t keep up with the updates. That’s atleast what I got out of it. Another thing is they have known about this issue since before the 2016 gen 3 was released but they have never told anyone purchasing a vehicle that iOS software isnt compatible.

It's annoying, to say the least. But there's absolutely no way I'm ditching my iPhone.

It's not just iPhones that are having the issues, Androids are experiencing the same.

Tomorrow I'll try punching it with brass knuckles as hard as I can. That should fix it.

That'll have a better chance of correcting it than what anyone is getting out of Toyota.

Oh wow didn’t know Android is having the same issues, I thought it was just with iOS software. Not looking too good for Toyota. I’m no law student or lawyer and I could be wrong but seems like that could be borderline class action lawsuit if they are selling defective software in their systems that isn’t compatible with any phone and not telling any customers prior to purchasing a vehicle.

I don't have any personal experience with it since my FJ is too old for the system. My experience is when riding with my son and hearing him complain about it and realizing he is having to go through the set up process again to get it to see his phone.

its an iOS issue...at one point, one of the older iOS had no voice cancellation on calls, so the person speaking to you would hear themselves speaking, or their echo..searched and it seems to be a very common issue where Toyota is blaming Apple, and Apple is blaming Toyota..don't believe me, search the web, a lot of 4Runner peeps are complaining too...but nothing is being done on either end to address it. I mean, not sure what is changing when an iOS is being updated, but Bluetooth versions are backwards compatible so even if the Entune doesn't upgrade its firmware, ever, all phones should theoretically be able to connect. Bluetooth is Bluetooth...but then there are app elements like the Entune Pandora that sometimes throws up the insufficent connectivity crap unless you turn off your phones BT then turn it back on, then open the Entune app to let it "run" etc...this is starting to become witchcraft...
