OKay, I've been searching on here for some answers and so far haven't found anything that covers what I'm experiencing. My A/C works fine until I hit the highway. The blower works fine, just no cold A/C on the highway? I'm really puzzled on this one? Any ideas? I've got a 2006 Prerunner Doublecab with 70,000 miles and I'm hoping to save a trip to the dealer. :(
    Thanks.

Try having the system recharged with Freon. This might sound stupid but then again it may fix the issue.

Just a thought but many vehicles has a disable circuit for wide open throttle (WOT) operations. Could be something along those lines.

Mine has done the same thing for a couple years..............I will get on the frwy and hit 45 and lose it......so I will slow down to about 10 and get it back and usually don't lose it......I think it might have something to do with a lose belt or the clutch is messed up.........I like you have posted this problem before on many sites and no one seems to know the problem...............good luck..............I'm just going to buy another truck....72,000 miles as well

Either you are too low on refrigerant or the system is overfilled either way you need to double check that. It will require the use of a manifold gauge set and a DVOM. Also excessive air gap on the compressor clutch may cause the disengagement.

You definetly need to have your a/c system inspected. You may have a leak or may just be low on R134-A (technically it's not freon R-12 is called freon). Or your compressor may be going out. You could have a faulty high pressure switch or your fan clutch could be weak or..... There are many things that could be causing your problem. And A/C work is not something you should do at home (unless you are a certified technician). Take it to a trusted mechanic and have them diagnose it for you. Just my .02

Thanks, weird but this did start after I installed my stereo ie, had my battery diconnected for a while. Since I posted this I haven't had a problem. If it starts again I'll try what you said. Thanks again to all who replied.:)

if you unplugged the heater controls, make sure when you plugged them back in none of the pins pushed out of the connectors slightly making it an intermittent contact with the control head

Same here. I did some work on my fuse box and the battery was disconnected for a while, when everything was back up running the A/C didn't work for a couple hours. The guy at the shop works on a lot of Tacomas and said it was normal, I thought it was BS but I guess he's right. It hasn't happened again.
