with that much weight on the spindle, i'd need to design something VERY strong.

to start, maybe even 2 spindles to spread the load. All welded to my current bumper which I know is plenty strong.

Im sure a few supportive braces around the swivel could help. Hell amongst three engineers...we ought to be able to figure something out.

Hell yea man same here. I would recommend inventor personally as you can make credible constraints and stresses in hypothetical loads.

 

I've never used inventor, I'm very familiar with SolidWorks though lol CSWP, several other certs, PDM admin cert too haha

 

Solid works is the same I believe just a different vendor from what I hear.

 

Dassault Systemes owns SW to my knowledge, not sure about inventor! I actually don't know too much about Sim stuff though. I have the books and the program so eventually i'll teach myself haha

 

I think inventor is from the same guys who make autocad. Either way man, I would love to have a copy for myself...in college we used to take our 3d files and then convert them to EZ-Cam software so the CNC machine could produce the product/part. Now a days they typically use 3d printers from what I have heard at my school.

 

3D printers are the future lol check out markforged printers they are amazing and print production ready stuff already

 

Yea man very true, I feel printers are killing the CNC market for most light duty components as you can just draw it up and print. The amount of waste on a printed item is so much less than cutting from a massive cube like you would for CNC.

 

A double shear hinge is very doable for that kind of weight. I'm more worried about how it's.going to attach to the truck. Bumber and bedframe is probably required.

 

I feel like you could get away with the bumper being where all the weight it. Just gusset the hell out of the hinge mounting bracket as well as the pad for where the swingout engages

 

The bumber can certainly handle the weight. The question is can we build a structure that will connect all of that to the bumper?

I'm going to do a double tire swing gate eventually, attached to the frame and rack for double shear, because I don't think a single point in the bumper will work without making the bumper structure excesiexely heavy.

 

If only someone with CAD could do a load analysis and find out what the real requirements are....

 

That's why we were discussing inventor and solid works earlier as you can implement those values to a degree.

Rotated the tires and discovered some things! a loose nut on my DS spacer, mud all over my caliper, and rub on my e brake cable!
