When I moved back to LA in the early/mid eighties I asked for a skateboard and this is what my parents bought for me:(
But I rode it and dealt with it for probably about a year. When I came home everyday I would put my board down in the hallway and head to the kitchen. My mom had this Chihuahua that... well let's say he didn't care for me to much. He would run over, lift his leg and pee on it.
I was out riding after school one afternoon and I was practicing dropping off a picnic table. The board snapped in half . I went straight home and told my mom she owed my a new board. She didn't see how that was possible. So, I simply explained it broke because of piss-rot. I had a new Tony Hawk board the next day.

Edit.... The dog also pissed on the new board too.:frusty:, but it never broke in half.

LOL!Cool story!Earlier in this thread i had mentioned that i had a board with some sort of biohazard graphic on it but wasn’t sure who manufactured it.The more i refreshed my brain and dug deep into the memories i believe it was a Valterra, haha!

My parents purchased the board for me from like Kmart,Montgomery Wards or some place of that nature back in like 1983.The deck alone was very sturdy/legit but the trucks and wheels were tanks,LOL!The wheels never wore out correctly even when rotating them. They all ended up being cone shaped so i guess that’s how they were designed for eventual wear, haha!

Jay based on the pics do you still have the board? If so that’s classic indeed and i gotta see it in person next time we see each other.

This just reminds me that if anyone out there spots the original VISION "Lobster Fantail" deck on ebay or something, please let me know because I'd really like to have the same design as my first "official" deck again some day...

That’s going to be so difficult if such. This needs to be a re-issue since the “Grigley” deck models are available. The “Lobster” should of been available before the Grigley in my opinion.

Did anyone else besides me even ride one of those? haha!

I actually got it on sale from the surf shop north of Newport in Lincoln City. It was in the "clearance" section of boards.

My friend Jason had one and he may actually still have it.I’ll ask him and let you know.I do remember how much he liked that deck due to the tail shape for tail stalls frontside or backside.Myself i remember once i’d seen it in shops you either purchased it or it was gone and not available again like all the Vision boards would be restocked.

Edit:My friend no longer has the board/deck.He laughed though when i mentioned it because of all the great memories we all had back in the days(1980’s)skating.He doesn’t skate anymore either in which i knew but his son is now.

So you're saying... it was RARE!?!

Well, fuck me running. It's always funny when you think something that was probably not liked by anyone else (none of my friends ever wanted to borrow my board) turns out to be a rarity.

By the way, I did pre-order the yellow Natas Kitten. Kinda had to especially with the current patch I'm trying to sell.

I’d have to say it was(rare)and can relate to friends not taking up the opportunity to borrow a board, haha!Spit i even had friends who wouldn’t even let you cruise their board,LOL!
“Grigley”road the “Lobster”before his personal pro models were available. That’s possibly why the Lobster faded off,IDK.

Congrats also on getting the Natas Kitten!

I saw first hand what happens when you let someone borrow a board when the neighbor across the street from me was riding my buddy's Gonz "faces" deck, hit a rock and it went out into the street...

...only to be run over by a full water tanker truck. Under the back dualie wheels and completely fucked it. Actually blew both wheels off the trucks sending them and the bearings flying either direction and pulverized the deck when the baseplate was forced through the wood. Most spectacular destruction of a board I've ever seen. Completely destroyed the rear truck hangar/baseplate, too.

The driver told us we were fuckers or something and drove off. My buddy was PISSED. We stopped skating with that kid after that.

    RIP Luke's sweet Gonz deck:

(his was the green/blue colorway which I've never seen anywhere else before, probably worth thousands today)

LOL!You just never know what could happen!A few of my friends though were simply stuck up at the time though because they thought they had something better or fresher than everyone else.I road my boards hard and got my money’s worth out of the decks.I was in no hurry to replace especially during the time when my parents were the one’s forking out the funds,LOL!Like i mentioned in a previous post i had a friend who literally got a new deck or complete every month because he was spoiled. He would purposely find or discover a way to snap a deck/board because he wanted something else.
