I'm wanting to do a small lift on my truck, I've seen several people using billstein 5100s all around with a 1.5" AAL. Any disadvantages to using a 1.5" Block in the rear? I've been told that using AAL will stiffen up the rear end quite a bit. Also will this setup make my truck sit level or very close to level with the struts at their highest setting? At the most i will do mild off roading, nothing crazy.

Blocks will add to axle wrap.

It's where when you stop or accelerate quickly the rear spring on one side bends down and the opposing side up(rotational flex). Best to go aal or Dakar rear leaf pack.

Doesn't that already happen with any leaf springs though? So long as your U bolt is tight and there is no space for the block to move it would take an enormous amount of force for it to do any serious damage like break the U bolt right?

I've got a 1.5" block on mine and it sits low in the back, definitely go with the AAL.

I am wondering the same thing for a lift I'm planning in the future. I am 4x2 and will rarely do any serious off reading, or have a heavy bed load. I will be towing a camper in the future probably. I want to go with bilsteins all around as well, and wondering if a block is a bad idea instead of an aal. Looking for 2-3 inches of lift and slight rake

    Look at https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/

You can buy 5100s for the front and rear, use the stock front coils and use the HS AAL for under $530

This is what I’m leaning towards...BUT

You can use OME 887 springs for another $175

If I use stock springs then the front 5100s will be set to the top notch for 2”of lift

If I use OME 887 springs the front 5100s will be set at bottom notch

I’m running 5100 with 886 on mine and they were super stiff. Ride got a lot nicer when I threw my plate bumper on. So if you plan on adding weight it won’t be awful. But don’t buy them expecting them to ride like Kings

5100s all around, 887s, 3 leaf AAL w/ overload removed, 265/75/16 with Spidertrax spacers.

Looks good! Do you enjoy the ride? I plan on doing the exact same set up except maybe MD Dakars. 1.25 spacers?

Lift with coil springs not struts! Preloading the stock springs by setting the 5100s on the top notch will make the ride rough.

I have some 5100 with 888's sitting in the garage waiting to get put on too. Plan on going AAL in the rear.

Axel wrap is seen more when you run blocks over an inch or so, so in your case might as well just go AAL since you’re looking for 1.5

Well now I know exactly how those mods will look on my truck!

That's the SSO bumper, right? Not planning on the light bar but otherwise the same.
