Agreed, not saying what they did was the perfect choice, as there are safer solvents out there that can be utilized. I do miss paint that cures fast.

damn, shoulda stopped by here when you went up the 5 through LA...coulda hit a trail right off the grapevine! Or did you bypass the grapevine somehow? That would be a not-so-fun stretch to be towing on, that incline is where my lean issues with the supercharger really come out.

See family and deliver our bikes since Phoenix is too hot to bother riding now.

Can anyone suggest any stock height rear shackles? I was looking at the one from Wheeler's but I was wondering if anyone had any alternatives.

Also, anyone have any experience re-using their rear shackles on new leaf springs? I don't want to spend money if I don't have to. But I don't want to have the truck sit for a couple days if I have to order new ones.

Should've stopped by San Fran and said Hi. Been wanting to go to the Hollister Hills SVRA outside Santa Cruz. Haha.

You know this is gonna start problems, just cause it’s you.

I reused mine but might replace them this summer if I get bored, with something greaseable.

I'll be honest I'm not immediately buying nice greaseable shackles right now because frankly... I'm broke.

Stock shackles are fine. Just swap in some poly bushings.

I used my stock ones with my new Dakars. Just made sure to get new bushings from OME but otherwise it was fine.

I heard they're hard to remove because they usually break or are seized - you didn't run into any issues?

You mean the old bushings? They were pretty easy to take out, I had to cut one of them out but it only took me a few minutes...didn't need any special tools for it. The bolts all came out relatively easily as well, they can be on there pretty good but just soak them with WD40 or something an hour or so before you loosen them and they should be easy to remove. Use a breaker bar if you have to.

I think the people that run into big issues are the ones living where rust is common; rust makes otherwise easy jobs nearly impossible if it's bad enough.

I didn’t do those either, but plan on it this summer. Are you gonna off-road and get flexy a lot? If not you can probably wait on those too.
But you do have fancy shocks and it would be a shame to blow them quick.

Biggest problem I had with my new Dakars was lining everything up with the new leaf springs so that the bolts would go back in place...if it's off even a fraction of an inch then everything is off and nothing will line up. My biggest mistake there was the fact that my driveway is old and not perfectly level...do it on a level surface and have ratchet straps handy to help line up the springs if you need to. They're heavy and you won't be able to make them budge by hand once they're in place.

No, but they're nice to have...I went with Wheeler's rear superbumps but unless you're carrying a bunch of weight around all the time or hitting the trails at higher speeds then you should be okay reusing your stock rear bumps.

I was talking about the shackles themselves - but my truck has zero rust at all so I guess I'm fine.

Are these the bushings I need?

I wish I could skip it, I went right up, raining cats and dogs yesterday too. Lots of second gear for the cruiser but oh well. Then engine and trans don't even get hot doing that but the exhaust somehow gets superheated and broke a mount on the way up yesterday. I'd totally go wheeling around the LA area sometime, might need the other vehicle though.

Yeah the shackles come off easily once the bolts are off, mine did anyway. Might have had to tap them with a hammer a bit but they came off without much fuss.

I don't know about those bushings, they might be...I went with the OME bushing pack (x2...need one pack per side)
