I joined the thread because I'm monitoring the issue and as I said previously may purchase a 3G if it's properly addressed. The OP created the thread to share his experience with the issues with his truck, you are the one trying to invalidate his experience and repeatedly fault him.

Most vehicles are not investments. It's a depreciating asset.

We'll #1 if you own a manual 6 speed please don't comment on how great the auto 6 speed is! Or how it works the way it's supposed to because you have no miles to validate your opinions. I love Toyota, they make reliable vehicles and they generally hold their values. We aren't a lot of cry babies because we have a issue, and like others have said that don't mind it and or tolerate it. They have said first hand they would gladly accept another tsb to fix help or address it. That's fine, but when people say it holds it's gear to maximize fuel economy don't fool yourself higher rpms means more fuel consumption. Yes more fuel consumption it's true when a engine revs. I like the power but wish it built it lower, that is where most trucks do. Also People may have bought them on a whim, or driven several trucks, maybe a lot or a few miles. Vehicles aren't always going to show good and bad or even corks immediately. So how about some positive thinking, whether you agree on one side or another because they might have a fix coming . It's not the loudest person talking, or doesn't agree with you is right. There's many opinions on this and hear them out form your own opinion and belief but don't bash others for theirs. I have taught my children to listen to all sides and form their own opinions, and don't lose what they think is right. But we really don't have to argue or fight over it . We have Tacoma's and like it or love it, it is what it is. Some people say they want electric seats, etc.... Are they wrong for wanting more or something different because it's never been offered before. Good luck everyone we can only wish for perfection but in reality nothing is perfect! Everything is open to interpretation, makes us human! Thanks for listening, peace out to my fellow Tacoma owners!

Is everybody looking for an argument around here? And you're really going to take drum brakes over disc as your cause? You're right. The only way I use my brakes is to slam them on from 60 mph so that's the only test that matters to me.

Really though. It's probably just the slightly mushy brake pedal that I don't care for. I just find it ridiculous that Toyota used drums in a vehicle that was redesigned in 2016. So anyway......forget I said anything and back to the dick measuring contest about the transmission programming.

There won't any solutions to a problem that doesn’t exist. The TSB is Toyota’s way to show their customers that they care, even if there is no actual issue. They put it out there to hush the few that complain. A placebo effect, so to speak.

Vehicles can depreciate but they are still an investment. You purchase it with the hopes they return or maximize the worth of money spent with its service to you.

Ok, I get it there's no problem because you say so! You win I'm convinced, hey
If Toyota offered a new tsb, say identical to ov tune you would refuse to update?

Problem lies with you trying to equate drum brakes as the reason why your brake pedal is mushy in your original post. They really aren’t related at all, and the front discs and drum brakes as proven by the other poster, stop the truck extremely well

Toyota has the greatest customer care. They care very very very much; the greatest care. Toyota cares so much they gave us free TSBs for transmissions, leaf springs and rusty frames, the greatest caring. A placebo, the greatest placebo so to speak, to hush those complianers.

I find it hilarious that you compare you not liking a trasmission to your rusty frame.

I find it hilarious how much time you've spent defending your pro Toyota stance in a thread you have absolutely no stake in. So how about removing Toyota's dick from your ass for just a minute and think about somewhere else to be.

I don't even own a 3rd gen so take it for what it's worth. This thread went to shit since OP is a 2 post dropout and this topic has been discussed 10 fold.. It is what it is. If you wanted 4wheel disc brakes it sounds like you regret not buying a ZR2. :notsure:

I didn't describe the situation in which I was using my truck. If fully loaded or towing, I very well could have been perceiving a mushy pedal as the result of brake fade due to the drums heating up. That's why I made the sarcastic comment about slamming on may brakes from 60mph. Meaning that, in that situation, yes the brakes are very effective. However that is not normally how vehicles are driven, or rather, stopped. Brakes get warm from continual use and performance starts to decrease. Without going into detail about brakes, drum brakes don't dissipate heat as fast as discs.

Are drums good enough for most of what a Tacoma is going to do? Yes
Would disc brakes be better in almost every situation? Yes
Was the point of my post about brakes? No. It was about the transmission downshifting.
Is a truck with street biased all seasons(TRD OR) going to stop shorter than a 300 lb heavier truck with larger aggressive all terrains(ZR2)? Yes

Nope. Every truck is a compromise. I compromised on my rear brakes. Which can be upgraded to discs when they wear out if I feel the need. You brought up the ZR2. I can't stand GM products.

That's also why I'm arguing about brakes in a transmission thread. Because if anyone here thought there was any useful information left to come out about the original topic we would hopefully have the respect to stop. It's all just gone to entertainment value at this point.:duel:

FWIW (not much probably) I live in Florida and just "upgraded" from Gen 2 to Gen 3. My truck is lifted so not stock but on the interstate (of which I did not test drive it first).... This truck shifts a lot as in a crap load of times trying to maintain 65+ in even a slight headwind flat road. I can only imagine what people with hills must experience. Do I love the truck. YES> do I wish it wouldn't shift like a 1985 Aries K car with no tranny fluid in it. YES so all things being equal, I will joyfully be in line if and when they (Toyota mothership) says line up at the stealership for the fix.

You only find it hilarious because you haven’t the argument nor the mental capacity to know better.

Why are you fantasizing about dicks in my ass? That’s bad for your health.

Doing 79 MPH on cruise over roughly 80 miles in rolling hills, both going to and from, the Colorado was getting approx. 23mph average. It seems like it has more low end torque. It has the same size and brand of tires as stock on my off road. It also has a air dam under the front bumper, which I imagine helps some. At 79 mph, it doesnt feel like it struggles at all. It does downshift for hills, but the shifting is so smooth and quiet it is easy to not notice it once in a driving trance.

My off road is likely to get around 18 to 20 MPG in the same circumstances and the jerking of the shift and the corresponding increase in engine noise at this speed when hitting hills makes the truck feel like it is being pushed to its limits at times.

The stark difference was eye opening. The Colorado not only drives more responsively and smoothly at all speeds, it gets better mileage too. Chalk it up to American ingenuity still being a force to reckon with. I am still happy with the off road though for its off road capabilities, and that was my primary reason for buying it.

It was designed to rust. The tsb was just Toyota giving a placebo effect to the few complainers because they care.

It wasnt designed to rust. And that wasnt a TSB, it was a RECALL.
