This has always been my viewpoint. Basic reqs + supplemental.

Combat doesn't give a shit if you are a 6'2 bodybuilder or 4'11 pipsqueak. It's gonna try to kill you all the same.

Related, why is the SAW/240 gunner always the little guy?

I am as well, but I also still lead. Hopefully you read my previous posts?!

Separate parallel programs. Zero requirement changes.

Didn't read the whole thread yet, but as a former Cub Master, son in Boy Scouts and daughter who was in Girl Scouts for a short time, I say it's about dam time. My daughter came to almost all our Cub Scout functions and was recognized at a few events for her contribution.

Her girls scouts sold cookies and did arts and crafts, the leaders where too afraid to go camping and have way too many hoops to jump through to put in events.

A few years ago, my Wood Badge project was about connecting our local girls and boys together for events. Girl Scout leaders would not participate, but didn't explain to me why.

One organization is all that's needed.

Lol I was a Boy Scout for a while and it was awesome for a few years with tons of outings. The older scoutmasters retired and their replacements followed the program you mentioned only with knots and bandages instead of songs and bracelets. I got bored and quit too :)
Meanwhile my wife stuck with the Girl Scouts till she got the gold award....her project was building a whitewater access trail into a local canyon. She loved the Girl Scouts

I guess maybe the quality of the scoutmasters is more important than the gender of the scouts

Come to think of it I prolly woulda stayed in Boy Scouts longer if there were camping trips with girls lol

There are conservative views and then there are sexist views.

As a former Boy Scout, a father of two daughters, and a conservative I am happy with this change in policy.

I don't give a shit if they let three legged martians in, if it gets kids outside and away from video screens, I support it.

    ^^ Well stated!

Previously, BSA was saying “No” to 50% of the youth out there.

Must be one of the best posts on this thread! Congrats.

By the way- there are 100 Countries with a Scouting program. The U.S. was one of only two countries that did not allow females in Scouting...

    Correct!

Youth are condidtioned to memorize for tests, but how many youth are purposely developed in a leadership program?

    You are on point!

I like @MTgirl post about her experience in Girl Scouts. It lends additional context to this conversation/thread. :)

Truth. I weighed around 125 and carried the 60 for 2.5 years, about 2 years longer than I should have.

I couldn’t care less that they let girls in. Half the leaders in my pack are women. My pack sucks, not because of the women, but because they don’t do anything except try to drain my wallet. This is my boys last year.

In this day and age I say why not? Also if you listen to the reasons that the Scouts decided to allow girls in, they actually make a lot of sense. On the other hand, good luck getting adolescent boys to focus on much of anything when females are around.

I was talking to a parent at camp the other day and said I think what deters a bunch of the new scouts that come in is the $200 for a uniform. Plus the book even though the book is the only real thing they need to start out. It can get expensive very quick for some.

Venture Scouts is part of BSA, is co-ed, and has been for years. This is the program for interested 14-21 year olds.
