No more boys scouts

Must be a regional thing. My mother in law was a girl scout 'leader' whatever they are called. And they did camp outs and such.

But It’s just not the same. I was in cub scouts as a tiger and went all the way to Eagle Scouts. There was something about going to scouts and hanging out with the guys. Something about going hiking and camping and being with the guys. You could talk how you wanted, guys were sharing tents at summer camp having bro talk/time. Many a time I’ve had to change clothes in the bushes or run across a campground in my underwear.

Now you gotta watch what you say to not offend the ladies. You gotta make sure you’re not about to flash the ladies as you haul ass back to your tent naked cause you dropped your clean underwear in the dirt. And don’t get me wrong, teenagers will find a way no matter what, but I guarantee you’re gonna have guys and girls sneaking into each other’s tents at night, scoutmasters aren’t everywhere at every time. Be interesting to see how BSA handles the first time time there’s sexual harassment/battery allegations between scouts.

And guys haven't got caught sneaking into another guys tent before? Just cause girls might be there in the future doesnt mean thats going to be a NEW problem. Just sayin

We’ve had unmotivated leaders to this point, and the motivated ones are tired of doing everything, so it’s only going to get worse.

My supervisor is a leader in a different troop, and constantly tells me to go lead. But with the hours I work at times, I wouldn’t be able to be 100% committed, and the kids would suffer as a result. He gets that, as he consistently tells me how much time he doesn’t have as a result.

We’re actually lucky this year with 4 leaders for the Webelo’s/ Arrow of Light. I miss every 3rd week because of work but we always have at least 2 of us there. Our 2 Arrow of Light are about to crossover so a 5th stepped in the get them finished up.

I have no earthly idea what the news is reporting.

I am a trained Asst. Scoutmaster, Den Leader, and a District Trainer- I been been attending adult leader roundtables for 7+ years.

The female progam can share the same chartered organization- but must be their own Troop- complete with their own adult leadership, and committees.

Only troop crossover is likely current adult leaders helping a new female troop get started. Perhaps a few small logistical concerns as we develop thw program.

Cub Scout IS allowing girls into the same Pack- but separate all girl Dens.

We had one leader for wolf this year. My wife ended up doing some stuff to help out. Other parents drop, and go have a drink or whatever for a few hours.

That is unfortunate.

Our Den Leaders generally stay with the Den from Tiger through Weblos/Arrow of Light. A parent usually gets trained and jumps in as Den Leader

Meanwhile my wife stuck with the Girl Scouts till she got the gold award....her project was building a whitewater access trail into a local canyon. She loved the Girl Scouts

I guess maybe the quality of the scoutmasters is more important than the gender of the scouts

Come to think of it I prolly woulda stayed in Boy Scouts longer if there were camping trips with girls lol

^ I think this is the majority of it.

My mom was my Leader and has been in for 35 yrs. I’ve been in 33 yrs. Most of those adult volunteer years. We did all kinds of outdoor things. My son has been tent camping since he was around one.

Better than most I knew. Admittedly a small sample size but when I went to Philmont it seemed pretty representative.

Yes it is. I wish I could dedicate the time to do it, as a former scout, army vet, and wildlife biologist currently.

Its tuff. I have meetings on Sundays.

Some Packs are more centralized. I miss many Pack meetings due to business travel.
