Let's see how long it takes to change that.

The whole thing is a joke now. There...my unsolicited 2 cents. Carry on progressives.

Oh wow here we go! So as an Eagle Scout and current Scoutmaster I feel like some air needs to be cleared, and the gist of this whole thing is the Charter Organization that is sponsoring the troop can approve or not to allow girls, gays, trans etc into their organization. If they don't want to adopt those policies they do not have to but BSA will support them if they do adopt those policies. Also there were several packs in my area that had girl dens as a beta program. The way Scouts is going to happen is the girls are almost completely separate from the boys separate scoutmaster could have different assistant scoutmasters or committee. There is a lot more to this. Also girls have to be in separate dens and can't be co-ed dens in cubs. What the news is reporting is only about half of what is really happening. I don't feel like explaining it all but I have a lot of information that has been relayed down. I will not get into my philosophies in this whole shit show of a thread. But what was mentioned before about the good scouting provides is what really makes it worth while.

This is why I do it, story time. So yesterday during our meeting I was having a scoutmaster's conference with a boy who just crossed over to scouting a few weeks ago for his scout rank. During our talk I asked him what he wanted to get out of scouting, and if he wanted to make eagle. Most boys immediately say Eagle especially when they are new. This young man says to me. Eh making Eagle would be great because it meant I followed through till the end, but that isn't really what I want from scouting. I want to learn my knots, how to be self sufficient, leadership abilities and skills, as well as experience new things and adventures that the troop does.

Now our troop is a 1% with how active and busy we stay. This summer is a 1 month road trip with going to Philmont, 2 merit badge camps, Niagra falls trip, and going to glacier nat'l park. That is just for this summer. That doesn't include a few weekend camping trips thrown in the mix as well.

Eh... big deal. International scouting has been co-ed for ever. I can tell you the boy scouts in Europe have a great time at co-ed jamborees and do just as much cool, outdoor stuff as anyone else. In fact, many military brats enjoyed their scouting overseas much more than in the states.

I'm as much a male chauvinist as the next guy, but this isn't something I'm sweating.

Also, international scouting has beer! Can't wait for that change to come here.

That is incorrect the girls and boy troop can go on a joint camping trip and the meetings the girls can join for opening and closing ceremonies but the rest of the meeting has to be separate.

Charter Organization rules all and BSA will not step on a Charter Organization's toes and tell them they must do this since it is still a private faith based organization and the majority of COs are churches with all different levels of ideologies.

That's not going to work. Most faithed based organizations do not wish to associate their programs with organizations whose beliefs run contrary to theirs, even if they are told they can run the show however they wish.

What's going to happen is there are going to be other organizations formed for folk who preffer to have girls and boys continue to be girls and boys respectively. The Scouts BSA as they are now called will continue to have momentum due to it's sheer size but as more and more folk decide to go elsewhere it will decline. My church, a huge old BSA supporter worldwide which I shall not name, has already started to develop seperate complimentary programs for both sexes that reflects our beliefs.

I was a member of 4 different dens and troops (all church sponsored, but different sects). I remember some had different rules than others.

They can have the same committee and assistant scoutmasters the only one not allowed to be the same is the scoutmaster that is a linked troop. Or they can be completely separate.

That was what I did last year in Bears. They needed a Asst. Den Leader and I jumped in to help. I really enjoy teaching the kids. My son moved up to Webelo's this year and both leaders moved up with them. The leader from last year went to Council and I stayed and got 3 more in there. I became a trained leader last year.

Oh they can camp we asked for clarification since it looks like we will be having a girl troop come Feb 19, 2019 when they are officially allowed to join. Now from what I mean by camp together is share a campsite but all the activities have to be semi-separate. There is a lot of gray area with the camping.

And I camp and hike and bury my poop and build fires and make knots and build shelters and navigate without GPS and fish and cook over a campfire. All of which I had to learn on my own because I couldn't learn that shit in my boring GS troop and wasn't allowed in the BS 30 years ago :D
