just picked up my truck and drove it from ny to mammoth ca. I've been offroading out here for a good 2,000 miles and know what this area has to offer and what a stock tacoma with an offroad package is capable of. Is there specific generation does this year fall into or body code of some sort. can anyone fill me in a little about this truck ive grown to love, other than the fact that the mudflaps suck wang(lost one already) thanks alot fellow yota enthusiasts

welcome......you are 2nd gen and 09+ to be more specific. things changed in 09, but the main stuff is 05+, if that makes any sense

use the search function on here and you can find most anything you need

TRD sport and TRD offroad still have the SR5 package and still have that badge on the tailgate

thats the badge on the back sr5. trd offroad just has different wheels and bilstein shocks i imagine. the tires do the trick as i still work in ny city and have to drive highway 50miles a day

    2WD or 4WD ???

The Off Road Pkg. makes the 4WD awesone with its Active Traction Control hydraulic brake booster which gives you limited slip on all four tires in H4 and locker-like traction in L4.

If 2WD, press the VSC Off switch briefly to engage 'AUTO LSD' for a 'posi-traction'-like rear end when you need both rear tires working for you stronger than the standard 2WD TRAC works. Then, if a real emergency stuck, you have a Locking Rear Differential... next best thing to 4WD.
If you want open differential spinning tires, then hold the VSC Off switch down for 3+ seconds, while stopped.

opinion...........4.0l motor has some more potential along with some added safety features. more computerized for sure but i still have no prob disabling traction control and whipping around the high desert while getting squirrely. oh i do especially love the locking rear diff for mobbing through the soft stuff. i want a snorkel for sure, found myself fording a river the otherday but only submerged 2/3 of my tires. fun stuff!!!![IMG][IMG]
