No more boys scouts

As an Eagle Scout (1971), I would respectfully disagree. The goals of the BSA are reflected in the scout oath and laws. I can still recite them both easily. The organization in my day was about developing character, not leadership. Carry on

 

Been many years since I did Cub Scouts. Personally I think it's good if a female can learn skills she might not be able to in Girl Scouts

 

This is still correct. But as you know- many, many leadership aspects are learned- in addition to other scout leadership classes such as SEALS, NYLT, etc.

 

Pretty difficult concept to grasp nowadays.

 

Do you know the history of boy scouts and Sir Robert Baden-Powell and the history of Sir Powell? Leadership has been key since day one read some of his manuscripts and journals. Also his wife wrote about his quest to start scouting.

 

Those may have been added in the 45 years since I was involved. But yes, leadership was once closely associated with character.

I think he's thinking it's going to be like lord of the flies or something IDK. some of the comments are off the wall. Don't know if I should be sad at the state of our communities these days or hilarious that people are that ignorant.

We had one of those growing up called it the spaceship van. It's funny has a driveshaft that runs from the front of the engine up to the accessory drive at the radiator.

 

Obviously not a whole lot considering you think boys are in their sexual prime in their teens.

I'm sure all of that will be taken into consideration. The leaders didn't stop becoming leaders just because girls will be let in.


Must be such an awful thought. Girls wanting to develop outdoor skills and knowledge. But I guess that edge out fart jokes and man stories.

 

Or that 10 and 11 year olds are “young men in their sexual prime...”

 

Actually a good thing. Girls need to go shoot and hike and do adventure things too, and GSA is just a bunch of cookie pushers these days.
