Though angling down with a wide cornering beam doesn’t actually help since there is no cut off. With my truck parked a short distance from the house the BDs illuminate the 3rd story. The Rigids have a nice clean cut off on the lower portion of the garage door leaving everything else completely black, which is what a fog beam is supposed to do.

 

Looks awesome! Have you put vinyl or plasti dip your grille surround?

 

Just bought these morimoto off of a forum member, can anyone confirm for me that they are appropriate for my 2018 SR5? I believe they are, they appear oval and I understand that's what I need for my truck. Thanks in advance

 

They should work fine. Hope you paid less than $120. Going price on the forum for anything used is $100. Brand new with a warranty they are $130.

 

Are they not the same lights I see on Amazon for $170?

Crashnburn is coming at you from a very technical, scientific standpoint, to where almost this whole LED thing is based on our perception rather than true performance. However, if you ask anyone on here who has replaced their stock Halogen yellows to LED, more specifically Hikari Phillips, you will get positive responses, in fact, willing to bet no one has been let down that they switched back to their old stock lamps. So it appears we all perceive them to be better. I truly think they out perform the OEM bulbs by a long shot. I see more, I see further, my throw is great, run cooler and that's how I did my comparison.

 

Yes they are the same ones. I just checked the Morimoto website and they are listed for 2012-current Tacoma's for $205. @kustom54lighting is the guy selling them at a good discount to TW members if you PM him, but it won't be as good as you got these for.

 

If I could get ahold of some Rigid Pro style fog lights for a good price I’d definitely do it!

That’s the reason I’ve only put a LED bulb in my fog lights, an AB F-16 to be specific, cause it doesn’t glare nearly as much as some others I tested and the throw is pretty superior.

I had thought about getting some of the cube style for the fog lights but feared I’d blind everyone considering what I’ve seen on the road from some F250’s that do have this setup. The Morimotos XB’s have a good throw and cutoff right?

 

Rigids and inexpensive do not go hand in hand unfortunately. But there are actually many cubes with the same style flat SAE J583 fog cut offs as Rigid for much less which will throw further and not blind anyone. And I’ve been in front of those same trucks running flood/spot/wide-cornering pods, super blinging annoying.

Morimotos have nice clean cut offs and better throw than putting drop in LEDs into a reflector, but they don’t compare to the power of a pod.

For an affordable pod with surprisingly excellent performance and very clean cut offs check out the OffRoadTown LED SAE J583 Fog pod. Uses the same single projector optics as the Morimoto. I was very surprised at the performance.

I tried several LED bulbs in my factory fogs and none of them were appropriate. Either they lacked the output, or they blinded on-coming drivers due to their design. Putting LEDs in the projectors is perfectly fine though, and I was so impressed with the HIKARIs that I swapped them for the HIDs I previously bought. Since I rarely use my high beams, the HIDs now reside there, despite their technical issues. Like many of you, I don't like the look of standard halogens, so I tried these:

I'll also note I've had the HIKARIs now for several months and will report zero issues with them.

 

Hmm interesting... what do the connections look like on those PODs and is there a bracket to mount these to the third-gen Tacoma?

Would I need something like

THIS to make them plug and play and work with the factory wiring? $85 doesn't seem too bad. Do you have a picture of these showing the throw distance and output? What color grade are these, 6000K Cool White?

I'll purchase depending on the answers to those questions.

They use Deutsche DTP style connectors. Yes, those Amazon ones would work, but that is highway robbery. I can provide you the Deutsche connector for free as I buy quality ones in bulk and get them for much cheaper than you can buy them individually/pair. See the connector shot in the listing. All you then need is the H11 plug, which you should be able to pickup a pair at the autoparts store for roughly $5. Connect them to build the same adapter as that amazon. I could even check my local parts store on the way home and throw them in for cost. Or you can get them off ebay like this for dirt cheap, and spend $1 vs $25. The pods also come with their own standalone harness with a separate switch if wanting to add to a truck without fogs or use for a different project.

These are spec'd at 6000k.

Here is an output shot. Slight tilt in beam is due to freehand aiming as these were a late addition and the rack was full. They have flat horizontal cutoffs that are exceptionally clean.
