    I remember having loose ball bearings but urethane was already out. Can’t imagine clay wheels.

    Yeah... the wider boards made things a lot easier and the wheels got better and better. My first skateboard was a kniterider which had steel wheels. Then came the Hobie classic laminated boards with clay wheels. Loved that board. Then Cadillac wheels were invented which were the first poleurethane wheels. That changed everything.

    My buddy David had a super rad collection of old boards. the best in the country. had hundreds of decks. He died a few years ago. I wish I had talked to him more.
