Just bare in mind that Watts / Voltage = ? or Voltage x amps = ?, so at the voltage you were getting, 400 watts / 127.7 volts = 3.13 amps, not a whole lot, most folks think if I can plug it in, it will run, not always the case if device calls for say 5 amps at load, you can potentially cause damage to the inverter or device or a wire melt down, I'm sure the wire size coming from inverter is rated to carry the 400 watts but not much over this for safety reasons . Just a thought. I like the idea  , just be careful what you plug in.

I don’t know, and honestly don’t remember seeing any wire that big, sorry. All I know is what I learned from the sources mentioned in the OP.

I will say that, if your setup is same as mine, the blue (neutral) and white (hot) wires are definitely smaller than the 22 gauge wire I used. I use the outlet regularly for charging my laptop and drill batteries, and have never had an issue.

    Good luck!

Any way to do this mod on a regular sr5? I do have the package with the usb ports in the back exactly where you installed the outlet, if that matters.

looks a lot like what i posted last year .
my kids charge everything in the back, the usb for the phone and the 112v for the camera battery or laptop for trips.

And i needed the 400w while driving to run a slow cooker in the bed for a 2 hour drive to cook dinner along the way.
and yes the black blends in good in the back, and you can tape a face plate to the inside for a templet

Face plate for the template is a really good idea. Wish I had seen your post before I did this. I like how yours turned out.

I just picked up this plug. Obviously the ground is the center wire but does it matter which is connected to the hot and neutral?

The wider (taller) slot in the outlet is connected to neutral.

Does the truck still need to be on in order to get any power at the outlet?

If I wanted to do the anytime 400W, just follow the steps 1-11? I wanted to confirm. Thanks so much for gathering all the info. This is super helpful.

    Per my memory, correct.
(Also omit #7, the one where you cut a hole for the outlet)

No I took the ground from the outlet and connected it to a couple other locations but the tester still says open ground

Does the factory bed outlet also have an open ground?

I'm no electrician; but, it seems to me that there is technically no ground on a vehicle... just positive and negative. That's why you get static shocks.

That's exactly what I was wondering, I'm not sure if that's how it's suppose to be, so when I see another Tacoma somewhere I'm going to ask him if I can check it

Does anyone know exactly why Toyota wants to limit the inverter watts while driving? Is it just so you don't leave your 400W space-heater or appliances running while driving, or is there a reason?

Toyota limits the wattage for a reason. Toyota found that if you run the full 400W while driving and have everything else on (blower motor, wipers, stereo, etc) that once you got to your destination the truck battery would be dead.
