Talk me into the spring TSB.....

I have a 2009 DC short bed TRD that I purchases a couple of months ago with 7000 miles on it..

I am considering getting the TSB done but don't want to regret doing it..

I have not had too many really heavy loads in the truck and have not had it bottom out. But I still have that damn "new truck" feeling so I have not loaded it with wood or over used the bed..... I wish I still had my old one but it failed the frame inspection....

Last night I loaded my lawn tractor in the bed and drove around with it.. It is pretty heavy but with the short bed it was partially on the tail gate. I did not notice a harsh ride or feel it bottoming out so I am on the fence..

Just don't want to get the springs and get nocked around going over bumps etc. or have my son be uncomfortable in the back seat..??

I also don't want to not get it done and down the road regret that decision...

I can't make a decision on what to eat for lunch never mind this stuff.....lol

I have comfirmed that the truck has the 3 springs in it now..

I appreciate any input..

 

well i know the answer you will get on this site. it will be do it. same with any question you ask. what kind of shock, you will get billstiens. if you ask what kind of tire, it will be bfg or grapplers. if you want a speaker box, it will be mr. marv. if you want seat covers it will be wet something or another. you will not get a non biased opinion here because everyone is brainwashed to thinking that what is writen on TW is the word. so if you want it, get it. if you think you need it, get it. if you think you need it, get it. if you dont, then dont. and when and if you do get the tsb, please post in the 2nd gen forum "what size tire and wheel should i get?", that would make my day even better.

 

I would say if you don't think you need it, you probably don't. If you did needed it, you would probably know that you did.
So let it be for now until you do think you need it.

Of course, if you plan on hauling some heavy shat, then that's a different story.

 

Here my thinking.
Toyota has come out and said due to us trying to cut costs to increase profits sober can beat ford, we have once again cut too deep and jepardized safety and quality so we are offering a fix if you are within the warranty period.

So why not get it fixed on toyotas dime and avoid out of your expenses later.

Do you need it? It seems like Toyota thinks so.

Did I need it probably not well at least not yet. Did I get it yes. I had it done 3 weeks after I bought my '08 used about a month and a half ago. For me and being an 08 non trd ment I got new rear springs and new shocks all the way around without any cost to me you better believe I am going to get something like that done.

 

I may be wrong, but I think the 2009's, and TRD's in earlier years, only get the 4 leaf spring pack, so you should already have 1/2 the firmer ride with stock Bilsteins.

I got the TSB and don't regret it: the ride is firmer but not harsh at all and this is on terrible Pennsylvania roads no less. If you're afraid you'll regret it buy a set of leaf helpers at Autozone for about $25 and install them in max lift mode to gage the effect before making a comittment.

you have until 36,000 miles to decide. Don't get in a hurry. You'll have plenty of time to put the springs to the tests you need to make a decision.

 

Have to disagree with the reasoning: I think Toyota did it because they know that most buyers make the buy decision (partly) based on a nice cushy SUV ride in the test drive and at least 80% never carry a load or go off-road to see the side-effect of that nice cushy ride.

But for the 20% who DO, this is a way to keep them happy too.

 

This is great advice. I waited until 15,000 miles to decide. Ended up getting the TSB and I'm happy. But I would wait to see if you really feel like you need it, based on what you need the truck to do.

I have made this point many times on many threads and you are exactly right. It's chump change to put heavy springs on for the few that want them. I'd venture to say it's much less than 20%. I bought my truck at a large Toyota dealership in Indianapolis, and since 2005 they have only done 3. Mine, a guy I sent to them(PT6), and 1 other person. They have sold hundreds of units in that time period so the % would be very low. People just don't know it is available.

 

If I'd a wanted an El Camino- Ida bought one. Get the Spring TSB done when you get some time. The ride is worth it. Firm, but not harsh. Wanna carry that quad in the back, you'll probably need the extra spring load. IMO Toyota seems to have a history of building trucks that can't carry their weight. Put anything in the back and down to the bump stops they go while the headlights head for the sky. Toyota has shorted you and for the money we spent they need to make it right.

whoa kid.....chill.... not everyone on here is like that.

Anyway I have not had the "harsh ride tsb" done, I have, however, lifted my truck and installed an aal, my ride is great with it. I can Honestly say before the aal I didn't really notice any problems with how my truck rode or handled light loads. I even towed my boat with it(without the aal) without any bottoming out or "harsh ride". I think it depends on how you use your truck and what you feel is a "harsh ride".

 

You're wrong! In general, most people will try to give their honest opinion. He is giving a scenario and wants people's advice. People give their opinions based on their experience. Yeah, they may be biased, but if you have enough people give the same biased opinion, then perhaps the majority would show that the biased opinion in question has some validity. If you are that frustrated with the way things are here, then perhaps you should find somewhere else. Try to remember your first time when you had a question. Wasn't so stupid then, was it?

 

Sounds like your unsure so I would recommend to leave it stock. When you get frustrated, then that's when you go for the TSB.

Most Tacos DO not have the TSB and are fine.
