How much higher is it that the stock rear hitch? I had a curt on my 2nd gen and now have a 3rd gen and am considering the Mobtown hitch. Also, how difficult was the install?

If I saw someone hooking a boat up to a front mounted hitch, I'd offer to back their boat in for them, lol.

Mine fits great, no probs with my Mobtown skid, they use different holes altigether. Use a winch reciever mount on it for sure and you can pull 12000 lbs forwards with it, and easily do the same by moving it to the rear hitch.

I would have to measure when I get home. The install was fairly easy. The only thing they left out was that the frame around the grill has to be trimmed a good bit. If not the grill will constantly pop out of place. Overall I like it.

Exactly. I've used a front pintle hook at work to maneuver trailers into extremely tight spaces (~3" wiggle room on either side). Turns an hour job into 15 min. I got a lot of shit the first time I used one, the other guys changed their tune when I could park triple stacked trailers in 1/4 the time compared to them.

I installed the Curt front receiver on my 2017 TRD Sport. I had removed the air dam already and had nothing to do except bolt it up. Top bolts are a bit tricky as they need to be inserted with wire and held in place to get nuts on, so they don't fall back into frame. No skid plate trimming on Sport but instructions do say some trimming on TRD Pro skid plate. Very happy with product.

I know this is an older post but wondering if anyone with a TRD PRO had to cut the skid plate to get the hitch on. I only need this hitch for an additional bike rack.
    Thank you

I don’t think you will have any issue with a Curt front end receiver, they use large bolts in the frame and the skids use the smaller holes in the crossmember under the radiator. Mine works fine with my Mobtown steel skids, which use the same holes as the stock OR OEM skid, which probably uses the same for your TRD skid.

I put the same one on my sr. I can say that it does not interfere with the stock skid plate but had to remove the chin spoiler, I didn’t like it anyways.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure my truck (trd pro) does not have a spoiler but the skid plate appears to be larger than stock? Not sure if it's just the color that makes it look like that.

If you have a aluminum skid plate then you have the trd one, not sure if there will clearance for the curt front receiver.

I know this was years ago, but did you decide anything for a front hitch? Does it fit around a TRD Pro type front skid plate?

It fits with the 17 TRD pro skid plate I still have mine on and use it occasionally for my ebike when I have the families bikes on the back bike rack. You lose some ground clearance but I don't rock crawl or off road much. If you need the ground clearance I would not install it.

Wow, Thanks! so the Curt 31075 front hitch bolted on just fine, no need to trim or adjust the aluminum TRD pro skid?!

How long do you think it really took/rakes to install or uninstall the front hitch mount?

i was just thinking of getting the curt as front hitch for occasional light cargo carrying, and long

i don’t really offroad either, so not too worried about clearance, though wonder if it affects wind noise or anything else noticeably. I don’t have the often declared on the internet as aesthetically unpopular airdam thing installed currently.

I recently installed an aluminum generic copy of the TRD pro skid, but i got it mainly as part of a plan to protect the Catalytic shield better, and the oil change cover looking easy, plus being cheapest relatively lightweight front skid. It should have take 20 minutes to install, but took more like 2-3 hours to get it in right, no lift and aligning was a little tricky. Thought maybe i mixed up the bolts/washers placement , but they were correct. I ended up trimming the tips off the front bolts and adding a couple regular washers to the front most two bolts.

It was installed by a local shop it was cheap money at the time and I was worried about the trimming as well. I just looked at it and looks like the front was trimmed. I don't even notice it's there unless I need it so no to wind noise. Here are some pics for reference. I have no regrets it comes in handy.20240725_172003.jpg 20240725_172003.jpg 20240725_172009.jpg 20240725_172027.jpg 20240725_172009.jpg

@frankybones pictures much appreciated. If i go for the front receiver thing, now i know what i’m in for. :hattip::bowdown:

This is a big deal to expect ahead of time in terms of plowing ahead, versus getting sidetracked by unexpected fit problems!

    Right now looks like:
~$200 for the Curt hitch 30175 shipped.
Whatever rack/addon to use with it, $60-$300.
Plus install time/effort, which i guess includes cutting.
I think the imitation TRD skidwas about $170 off ebay, it was light grey, i rattle canned it black before installing.

this is what my truck looks like now with the skid plate not cut:
