I run 93 on the 91 tune (Shell VPower) and it's pretty damn smooth. 91 was a little harsher and jerky on 1.03 in my experience vs. 81/1.03 but I have not run 87 on 1.04 to compare.

My wife for sure! lol I'm starting to appreciate it the more I drive it. It's incredibly predictable yet still responsive at the same time.

I went from 87 on 1.03 for a month, to 91 (still 1.03) for a couple tanks. Instead of going to 91 on 1.04, I went to 87 because my wife mentioned that it bucked on her (and scared her) while pulling into the driveway. Plus I wanted to save some money now that gas prices are climbing so dang fast...and it's not even Memorial Day weekend yet!

I am on 1.04 91, but will try 1.04 87 as well, see if that resolve my gear 2 to 1 downshift clunk.

Successfully flashed my truck to 1.04 91 tune. Drives like butter.
FYI (this is probably already mentioned somewhere in these pages) during the flash, my display showed a bunch of error messages like "brake override malfunction" and stuff like that, but they were gone after the flash process completed. So don't worry about those unless they persist until after you've flashed your ECU and TCU and turn the truck back on again.

The video on post says this too, but it never hurts to reiterate this since it seems some people don't even go through the first post. :)

I watched that video all of a dozen times. I also installed the tune and am 100% satisfied.

What is the learning period on the new 1.04 tune? Or is it different truck to truck.

Let me know if that worked! I have the same issue, it feels like it could be harmful to the drive line or tranny. I found if i try and slow down alot more before stopping it calms the clunk down a lot , but driving normal to a stop its very harsh! I did not have it on the stock tune or 1.03 87, i went straight to 1.04 91 and it started the clunk as soon as i started driving it.

This is exactly my experience. And I agree the clunk is noticeable enough, that I feel it could be harmful to drive train over time. Hence my attempt to "fix" it by flashing the 1.04 87 tune. I email Mat few days ago regarding the issue, but haven't heard back.

I plan to flash tonight, but won't drive the truck until tomorrow. Will report back with results.

Ok. I can’t remember if we’ve had this issue come up before but I had an embarrassing moment this afternoon. While talking about the tune and how great it is to a fellow Taco owner, he wanted to go for a spin to feel the difference from stock. Sure! No problem I thought. So coming out of a right turn at a slow speed, the truck was in 2nd gear and I punched it. The truck did great and moved strong and then all of a sudden the truck basically lost all power and shut down. After a couple seconds which seemed like an eternity, power came back. I have had a couple instances recently accelerating and there being a long pause between shifting from 2nd to 3rd but never this dramatic. This didn’t happen with me on 1.03. Anyone have this issue?

    Ok everyone,

I started with 1.04 91 and recently flashed to 1.04 87. Both were used through the break in period and I have to say both show noticeable gas mileage improvement. Used to average 16-17. Now averaging 19-20 and that’s with lift, bigger tires and armor. Once you break that 200-250 mile learn the mpgs go up noticeably so don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t show immediate mpg improvement.

Now, with all that being said I REALLY liked the 91 octane tune due to the power and smoothness. It would pull uphill effortlessly even with added weight. I even put 900 lbs of bark chips in the back and managed to average 19.1 mpg driving normal both up and down hill. With premium only being 20-30 cents more per gallon I will likely flash back to 91.

The 87 tune is nice and economical, but after driving up and down a mountain today to and from the river I can say without a doubt that 87 octane tune holds 4th and 5th gear too long. I hit 80 mph in 4th with pretty steady acceleration before it decided to shift. I was a little concerned and started using S5 to shift it myself.

Anyways even with that weird shifting with the 87 tune I still got 19.3 mpg tank average round trip with gear in the back, wife, child, armor, tires and winch.

Oh and for anyone wanting to run some cleaner through the engine and do some quick mods. After two tanks of gas with Lucas upper cylinder cleaner I honestly think it helped with the mpgs a little (engine just sounded smoother when revving high). I also cut that charcoal filter out of the lid of the intake box and when I was hitting anything above 3500 rpms accelerating uphill it seemed to pull a little better.

Hope this helps anybody new to the tune

This and your crank position sensor could be flawed under TSB due to too much anti corrosion coating on it...
