If you floor it and your tires start slipping with traction control on, the engine will cut power. When that happens it feels like the truck is slamming on the breaks.

    Could have been that...

Maybe. I would think they would slip at the beginning when I gave it throttle instead of at around 4 or 5k

People posting their thoughts/reviews about 1.04 for the benefit of new users should probably note that anything negative that was noted is usually a result of personal preference (not saying it always is, but usually), and both those things and other quirks that may be present can be addressed with the forthcoming custom tuning. It wouldn't be right to not note that and have someone eyeing the tune and not reading enough about it to just see that some map holds such and such gear too long and they say eh screw it, whatever, not worth the money then.

After all, this thread has gone back and forth on what's good or bad about the maps for tons of pages just because of how people perceive things about the tune and how they think their truck should behave

If this 3.5L motor had any torque, then yes that would be the case. They don't make any power until like 3500 RPMs.

Agreed, my tires don't really start slipping hard until the RPM's get up there.

peak torque is 4500 rpm and if the tires slip at all the ecu cuts throttle

If you were indirectly addressing me I would say I don’t care if people don’t want to buy the tune based on some feedback someone gave who has the tune. It is their loss they if they have such shaky decision making since there is 800+ pages of positivity about the tune. I was no way intending to be negative about it. The tune is AWESOME period. It is the best thing I ever did for my truck.

I am an experienced taco owner having owned several. The tune makes the truck what it should have been from the start.

Now if only someone could tell me where the fack this vibe is coming from from 38-40 mph which was there BEFORE THE TUNE

Then that must have been it cause that’s where I was. It kinda freaked me out for a second though.
On a good note, awesome job giving us that much power! Lol
    @OVTune
I’m torn between 1.03 and 1.04. 1.03 is so fun to drive. The truck felt really strong and scooted along. 1.03 is more refined and smooth but the power is there when needed. Both are 100%better than stock

Wait till 2-300 miles on 1.04. The learning is something to behold as it settles in. You may be surprised as I was how much better it becomes than 1.03

It was kind of to everyone, rather than just you. A lot of the feedback on this thread just goes back and forth about what should be done. More throttle response, less response, hold whatever gear(s) longer, don't hold them longer, accelerate powerfully in 6th gear or ignore that because it's an overdrive gear, etc etc. With all that back and forth, I guess I could see how it could be interpreted as a ton of issues rather than a multitude of people having different ideas about how the truck should behave. Custom tuning will fix a lot of that, especially for the people with massive tires and 400lbs of armor diluting the reviews for people with an otherwise stock truck (or close to it). The base map should be for them, the significantly modified folk can get their custom tuning. It's a benefit anyway because of the incredible amount of variance seen with these trucks

*unless traction control is completely turned off.

But, I too have experienced the engine cutting power with traction control completely turned off. However, this was while in 4-Lo.

I've noticed in the rain, I can light the tires for a full second, like "one mississippi", before the TC slowly eases-in. Has done it since new/stock. Allows the most slip of any traction control system I've ever driven.

    So odd how things
Ha! yeah, it can make you paranoid being on here.... but it's also helped me curtail some things that were amiss before they became an issue. I would have never thought my truck would come over a quart low of transmission fluid or with U-bolts that were only hand torqued or warped drums and I would have driven my truck rich until my cats failed and no telling what other damage would have been done before I discovered the holy grail of fixes for my truck in the CKP sensor.... and I wouldn't thought to keep an eye on my diff on a new truck for signs of leakage... so some of the paranoia isn't bad. But of course there have been several others (front bushing, bed alignment, engine mounts, coolant leakage, etc.,) where I've gotten paranoid for no reason. Sadly, for MY 3rd gen a lot of paranoia has been justified. :(

That said, damn does my truck drive well now! Thanks @OVTune for being the missing piece to the puzzle!

Well mine did the engine cut turning going up a hill trying to merge WOT (Just mid rpm range not rev limiter or traction control). It did this with the stock tune a few times in 2 years as well. It had no tire slip it just fell on its face. I ordered an updated CKP sensor. I'm due for an oil change in 300 miles and am going to try for a TSB high pressure fuel pump crickets. I need to start data logging.

I have gone thru a tank of fuel with the new 1.4 tune. Freeway high speed, and grandma driving, off freeway agressive driving, different ambient temperatures . With all my mods and re-gear It is getting better fuel millage than it was before the re-gear and OV Tune. Its funny because Ive been driving it hard, this tank should be more normal driving and the ECU will have learned more so I will get a bit more accurate fuel millage test.
